Seligman, Az. Behind the Sno Cap Diner is Juan Delgadillo's garden. Juan was the brother of Angel Delgadillo who started the Arizona Route 66 Association.

It is with great sadness that I post these photos. Dawn Patterson of Towanda, Il passed away last week. She turned her 2 car DK Garage into a tribute to Route 66 which she opened to travelers on The Mother Road. This thread is about places on Rt.66 which may fade away, but it is the people on the road who make Route 66 so special. So in remembrance of Dawn I submit photos of the now gone DK Garage in Towanda, Il.

Doug also has a complete Dog and Sud's Restaurant in his basement. He went to an auction when the Dog and Sud's in Bloomington closed looking to buy a booth. No one bid on anything, so he bought it all.:lol3

He also has the most awesome photo of stock car racing at Soldier Field in Chicago. There is so much going on in this photo which is why I'm posting it in super size. There are wrecks happening in several places at once.

I highly recommend stopping to see Doug at Joe's Garage.

Meadow Gold sign, Route 66 & Quaker Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    From Newsonsix.com:

In the 1930's, Meadow Gold put it up atop a small building at 11th and Lewis. It was a beacon along Route 66 until sometime in the 1970's.

"It's more than just a sign, it lives in people's hearts and memories it truly is a landmark," said Lee Anne Ziegler.

A few years ago the owner of the building on which the sign rested decided to tear the building down.

The Tulsa Foundation for Architecture and others mounted a sign rescue project. They got a grant from the National Parks Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program. They were able to take the sign down and begin restoration. Other grants and donations helped finish the project.
