Get out there and experience it for yourself, stop n smell the roses, do it soon.
There are some great references to read, my favorite is EZ66 by McClanahan. Another is RT66 Travelers Guide by Snyder. Search for the Great Spirit (37).JPG For me the best parts are in IL, MO, KS and parts of OK and then again some of it is well...quite boring, however it still beats the slab. This is IL.

As the OP, wanted to wish everyone a very, very Happy New Year!

For me, now 6 weeks past a right total hip replacement, I'm looking forward to much more (pain free) riding in 2017 :p3rry

I've really enjoyed the wonderful photos and information everyone has posted, keep 'em coming!

Thanks, and glad you are doing better.
Different angle of your first post.
Happy New Year to you too. It's been a great thread.
Several non-inmates have contacted me about the map also. I link 'em back to this thread.
Even though I've ridden parts of it before, this thread has made me want to return for the parts I've missed.

    Yeah, that looks like Illinois.:nod

I'm also enjoying the map and plan to ride the Illinois section down to St Louis in the spring. May see some things I've missed staying on the interstate. Plus Sprague Super Service gas station in Normal will open a Route 66 gift shop and visitors center on the premises this spring. Plan on stopping there to check it out.

Search for the Great Spirit (44).JPG Love the map with the pics!
Be sure to stop at the museum in Galena KS
Back when I went thru there in 2002 the curator was the retired HS principle. I spent over 2 hrs getting a tour of the museum and of course discussion involving, history, politics and religion. He asked me how much time I had...lol...I told him all day...about 2.5 hrs later I said good bye and down the road i went.

In IL there are abandoned/unused stretches of old 66, be careful if you go ADV'ing as you may find your ride wallowing in the mud. As I am riding a pig it felt right at home...that was a moment of pure pucker when the pig began it's mudslide.

Best wishes to you kickstandsup, have a fun time on 66 when you get there.

I am amazed by the lack of usa tourists on RT66, just like in Bryce Canyon UT.
What happened to "See the USA in your Chevrolet"? The foreign tourist are very enamored with the Harley Davidson brand. Since me and the o-l do not dress like pirates the tourist find us very approachable so we ended up in a lot of their pictures. What a hoot talking to them!. Germany, Holland, Spain, Poland, Australia, England, Norway, Sveeden [sic], Portugal etc

When I was exploring the AZ section, I stayed at the Canyon Inn in Seligman (nice place BTW) and a group of Harley riders pulled in, including their chase van. It was a tour, all Germans, riding Route 66 and seeing the Grand Canyon. They were having a great time (as was I) :clap

The foreign tourists are a wonderful crowd & they are not shy with the questions.
Many ask about the lack of matching attire to the brand of motorcycle being ridden Search for the Great Spirit (46).JPG .

I've found non-riders friendly and curious about the bikes/where we're going/where we're from regardless of where I am in US and Canada.
