Wow! :eek1 that float/barge was huge! Thanks for the video too.

Was there a body in the glass coffin looking thing on top?

    Off to research.

I can't imagine having a family member exhumed. It seems like extortion for them to pay and pay and pay to keep someone buried.

Sorry about the root canal. :twitch

Loving it all Paul. Thank you for taking the time to share your travels with us. It is not a small thing.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate seeing life the way it really is including the ugly part. There is a charity I contribute to which was started by a young Maine woman which supports a school for the kids that work in the Guatamala City dump.

Here is news video about it if anyone is interested. http://www.safepassage.org/

i was just talking to a guy last night about this very same thing...he described it as a cross between awe inspiring and depressing, as really there was nothing you could do to help as the scale of the problem is so massive

My girlfriend has been working for Safe Passage for over 2 years with the women's social entrepreneurship program. The women are given the opportunity to join the jewelry company if they stay on top of their education goals as well as keeping their children in school. A lot of the women are now earning a lot more than the national basic wage, learning about financial responsibility, and making a better life for their children. When you think about the alternative (sorting trash in the dump and taking their kids with them), I would say Safe Passage is doing a a lot of good in the community.

Here's the jewelry company if anyone is interested: http://creamosfuturos.com/

a quick ride to the coast about 100 miles or less and we checked in to Hotel/ Hostal Del fin, i thought it was on this sign but it wasn't so as you come into town near the beach take a right, its down the side street 50 feet, $9 a night for room with a private bathroom

black sand beaches, with crazy waves

the owner says he has three friendly dogs and a crazy one eyed parrot, who says "hola" from a bout 6.30am onwards for a few hours in the mornings

one dog was security for my bike

I am planning a simular trip in January. I am considering taking the Steel Rat to Cuba on the way back north. Are there any problems getting the bike into Cuba? Thanks

    Hope you're well.

route was good except there were road works for some of it with a few hours delay, got some locals to show us another way which they said was better, having done that road last year they were right, the road they took us on was way coller and dropped us perfectly on the ruta americana further down from where we were supposed to meet it...let me know if you want a track for the GPS

leaving viavia cafe in Copan and the maneuvering to get out and down the step...a very cool place to stay and the owner Gerardo is a great guy and has good info of the country being a bike rider himself

the rest of the day was in and out of the rain forest in the, ahem, RAIN, oh and cold!!!!

some crazy roads that test your slalom techniques for sure and then some good pavement in the middle of nowhere...final destination was D&D brewery
