I went to the auction yesterday. Yeah, kind of weird seeing nice cars noted as "structural damage". I'm thinking that not all used car dealers disclose that info when they turn around & sell the car.

Either way, I did find that there are different categories that they list on the motorcycles: theft, collision, donation, etc. I'm sure the "donation" ones are the best bet, but then again, why are people donating them?

"theft" sometimes is a good bet, at least if you want a solid structure for a parts bike. Often insurance companies will write the bike off once the wiring harness has been messed with.

"Donations" often come from families that have a death in the family, and they hire a company to settle the estate, and in many cases those companies don't mess with cars/boats/motorcycles because of variability in condition and relative value. And, in some cases, those items are actually included in the home sale or property sale, so those people or the original families just want rid of them, and hence "donate" them to certain people in exchange for of course, a tax write off. A friend of mine has a family business that handles dealing in the legal interpretation of estate contracts and the said sales of items; even though the dad is a car expert, he still never touches any motorcycles or cars, instead calls people he knows to handle them or offer the family a reasonable value based on their opinion.

Of course, there are many other scenarios. Again, you can defintely find some decent deals, but it's not like going on the flea market on here, getting some good history of the bike, and being able to get a solid feel of it's history and actually riding it.

Agreed! I’ll be back to Lauderdale on the 17th. Anyone up for a midweek ride sometime 17-23?

Shinko 700's. Good tire for 50/50. Not great at anything but not terrible either. They work for me as a nice compromise tire. They seem to last a quite while as well. Rear normally lasts around 6,000 miles and I typically get around 9,000 out of the front.
