Will we?......... Won't we?........ Will we?........ Won't we?........ was the question posed during the prior week, with temperatures estimated around 40C for ride day. :knary
However with carefull route plotting, based on selecting the "coolest" in more ways than one, local southern towns on the weather map, :deal we managed to keep in the "cool zone" (well! at least around 30C) most of the day.

Meeting in the very pleasant morning temperatures at Windy Point lookout kitted out minus the brain cell that says it's too hot to ride were Masterbrewer, Sol, The Misinformant (1st ride), OzAdvRider, Ian on the Vstrom (1st ride), CharlieW, drblue, Dorky Dave with Stallion & Texta catching up at Ashbourne

We descended into the lush hills, riding through pockets of very pleasant low temperature in the valleys

amazingly dry & parched on the left......................lush & green on the right

then out onto the winding, fast flowing, undulating, loose gravely roads for a bit of fun

a very pleasant atmosphere under the morning shadows..............

that is until ......................... the "single track Dominator" arrives with his fellow cronies

with just a bit of tar to link the "good roads"

then launching out of the scrub to savor one of the many spectacular views to put a smile on you face

drawn to challenge the valley below, we fly over the freshly graded (damn!) roads with a loop along olive trees

then through the secret entrance to another beautiful intriguing valley below

    so peacefull!...................................

    until....................................!

and then "the mosquito" sounding 2 smokered, texta arrived

regrouping to brush off the dust & clear the visors

The Old Bull Creek Road ridge past ridden on the horizon

Finally we arrived at the famous Mount Compass bakery.........and the girls came rushing out of all the shops excitedly to greet the gnarly adventurers & their fantastic flying machines.................the mothers rushing in doors trying to hide their children :lol3

"Which one of you handsome guys is Mister Trev?.............I've put your special pastie aside"

"May we offer you our soft, moist little pink things for your enjoyment too?" :raabia

After letting her down gently about Trev's absence, with our tearful tale of his pain & suffering or was that ours :rayof , everyone got on with helping drblue repair his flat tyre except drblue :lol3

Does it help with "the runs" too?

    they'd obviously used it earlier

We waited at Strangways after a few of the guys missed the fire track entrance while Sol volunteered to chase them down

So he launched himself at a rate of knots after them down the fabulous Mt Alma Road, front wheel lifting often as he dropped over the sharp descent & against the strong gusty wind

(these photos were taken on a previous ride to show you how much fun he woulda had)

    back on track

gathering speed on the smoother sections

and just when you need a little engine braking into a corner, The Misinformant's KTM started it's fueling problems & cut out launching him straight ahead & down

Cummon guys I've got an excuse, I've got the camera

After getting himself back together I escorted him to the top of the nearest hill as a thoughtful gesture [IMG]

    & pushed him over [IMG]

    ............................................ towards home that is.:lol3

The well earned break at Yank

So that's what's been causing that buzzing sound I've been hearing most of the day!

Texta was helping at keeping the dust down too, but unfortuntely he was using expensive petrol

    Myponga reservior looking pretty low

The bikies riding the "Wall of Death" in formation to scare the tourists

Down the fabulous Sampson Rd to Myponga Beach for a swim~!

The water was inviting, but the thought of getting the gear on again was just too much to bare:knary

back on top of the world, some of the boys wanted to get even higher :clap

Finally the view from Mount Terrible :raabia

"How the F##k do we get down from here?"

Another fun ride with great mates & commiserations to those who experienced misfortunes.

    Cya again soon

    Cheers

You are a gem MB. Another great report and photographs to suit. I'd say that, going by their faces, Texta and Michael D spent some time at the back of the formation.:clap

Do you think that bloody Dominator will ever wear out a front tyre - seriously, there's about 300 photo's of it on the internet either hanging out on single track or jumping off some platform - honestly!

Hope everyone had a ball and that some serious training for the Flinders Ranges Classic - 2008 took place.

    cheers

    Masterbrewer, you're killing me.

Luring me from the calm waters of the carpe-tdm forum with pictures and then closing in for the kill with the usual ride report that makes my eyes water. :clap
And I'm sitting here in rainy germany where leaving the asphalt is considered a capital crime :huh.

Damn, you even delurked me here on adv-rider....:lol3

Hi Chooky & thanks for your kind comments.

Not sure when I can get over again with the bike at this stage unfortunately but continually looking for openings.

The next planned ride is this, if you guys are interested at short notice:

    http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39202

Seems there will be some local "different special tracks" knowledge attending.

    Keep safe

    Cheers

I really enjoyed the ride except for all that dust, would be good to do the same loop later in the year on a cooler day, with some moisture on the roads and tracks.:ricky

Would really like to do an ADV ride in late Autumn or Winter down to Deep Creek Conservation Park for a weekend ie. past Fisheries Beach near Cape Jarvis & camp down there for a night, get a good bomb-fire going and crack a few bottles of red & perhaps some Scotch.:freaky

The weather for our ride on Sunday wasnt too bad, was certainly a little bit cooler down south compared to Adelaide.

I'm glad to hear that Michael D. made it hope ok nursing a dodgy back tyre on his DR650 & I hope Misinformant pulled up ok too after his off on that sharp slippery corner.

I ended up doing about 430 kms all up, must admit I was pretty tired by the end of the day, I think the first Pale Ale dissapeared in about 20 seconds.:1drink

Anyway thanks to MB for organising the ride and it was good to meet some new riders too.

    Cheers, Sol.. :thumb

i agree :clap. preferably on a day i can make it this time though! i saw you guys fueling up at Normanville servo on my way back to Adelaide. it's some beautiful country down that way. sounds like an event filled ride with spills, flats and high temps. 430km's is a fair effort in those conditions too. Good on ya!
