The inaugural SA ADV Riders Melrose day arrived, pissing with rain we headed for the Bolivar initial meeting place at sunrise.

With no other definate route suggestions contributed, they all said....."you can do it masterbrewer".....................Oh sh*t.......... I thought, I've opened my big mouth and now I have to deliver.

15 minutes up the bitumen amongst the semis & cages mist plastered on the visor, first stop on dirt was to clean the lens as I couldn't see the MPS in front of me.

The next 50kms through Long Plains was spent racing those big f**kin' "bucket dropp'n" rain clouds coming in from the west.

First "group hug" was atop of the Hummock Ranges north of Port Wakefield where the sun came out to greet us (stop those thoughts, I meant photo shoot: SA ADV Riders aren't loike that)

Mmmmmm...............That's a fine bit of Aussie craftsmanship in them there exhausts if I do say so myself

Yum!.............it's the famous Old Stone Hut Bakery at last

Delicious tucker, but I can't say the same for the price ($10 for a pastie & muguccino)

Melrose Caravan Park bunk house car......................errrr bike park

OK lads.....Orange to the right..."the others" to the left.......blue & orange in the middle please

After the meet & greet it was straight off for a site seeing tour of the area........note for diary: gotta come back soon to ride at a pace I can actually take my eyes off the track in front of me to look up & around occasionally

Fabulous Fethers doing his "Flinders Ranges Motorcycle Adventures" guide thingo thing (http://www.flindersrangesmotorcycleadventures.com.au/?p=3163) He's still looking for numbers.........so put your hand up & you too can feel on top of the world

    Trails to the north

    Trails to the south

    Looking west

    Here comes the rain again

What tha? .............................. We've gunna f**kin' go where?

    Oh my god! ...........................they're mad

"Baby Adventurers" well suited for this terrain waiting to show how it's done

    OK!............... who's first?

    Down they go

    Not to be out done

    The first to re-appear

    Look!................. there's more

    The steep climb out

another appears to the cheers of the crowd

Oopps! .......I think I'll just turn right here, so it looks like I'm still in control

Phew !.....................Victory at last!.........another one has conquered the mountain........cheers all round!!!

    Look.......................... on the horizon..............it's a bird..............it's a plane...................no it's a 990 KTM Adventurer thundering into view!

Wow! Toby..........you & Goldfinger are "Legends"..........no one has ever conquered the Bridle Track on a 950+ KTM before..............................can I have an autograph?

Regrouped & off for some more "site seeing"

Back at the Stone Hut Bakery for those that didn't believe our experiences

With the days riding over it was time to start the B*ll Sh*t

It all started to stink, so we moved outside

By 1.30am some of us were just managing to hold ourselves together

Damn!.....Damn!..... The other "Bridle Track Legend" must have got the big "Legends" mug, now I have to make all these to help quell those schooners of port I had last night

Sure improved my riding speed though!

Goldfinger.........ringing the neck of the KTM

Andrew enjoying a "gem" of a ride

    Wayne640..................or his dust that is!

    CharlieW getting his breath back

    Masterbrewer peggin' it

    The Magnificent 7 ride again

I know the maths is bad, but the story line was good... hey?

The infamous "ruts".......................the lads reckon CharlieW rated a 8/10 for poise, effort, style and most important of all, an injury free landing & recovery......we actually found his glove 10 metres away from the bike after he cartwheeled

    The ruts stopped everyone

Repairing CharlieW's Dominator............(I think the rut dominated this time actually)

Hey CharlieW, let me see if it starts OK! Ya just spin this on a Honda don't ya?

With his now off-set handle bars and broken indicators & I would think feeling a bit sorry for himself, CharlieW's speed & composure was soon regained.

We were able to again set a cracking brisk pace, covering the remaining 200 odd kms of absolutely fantastic varieties of roads, tracks & creek crossings which seem to just blend from corner to corner.

I think everyone was amazed by how everything was just flowing so sweet & gelling so well, that they couldn't believe it or for that matter keep the smiles off their faces (including myself)

One of those rare moments of sheer magic

Thanks guys for an absolute fantastic time

    Till we ride again

    Cheers

Had a great ride and thank to all that came, master brewer you would have the best navagation skills i have ever seen.

Had a hoot of a time and road some really good tracks, i think we even convinced a few small bike owners to come over to the ADV ranks.

Good to see that Charlie pulled up OK after his get off.

    Till the next adventure:ricky

Good to see that you all made it home (but not without incident). Hope the damage to CharlieW and the Dominator is minimal.

It was fun to show you around some of my riding area and catchup with friends and meet new ones.

Would gladly repeat the loop at a more leisurely speed for you. It did go at a quicker pace than I intended but we had a few who tried to push us along.

Maybe we will have to find a date for a Melrose revisited.... cruise (re; sightsee / stop and take photos) version.

Good photos & looked like a great trip, i'm still dissapointed I couldnt make it along :baldy

I have recently fitted an 18 litre tank to my bike & look forward to testing it out on a longer ride.

    Next time for sure.[IMG]

Excellent ride report masterbrewer. You do realise that you did such a good job navigating that you will be expected to do it all the time now.

The Dominator only seems to have superficial damage, but I will have a closer look this weekend. I only have a slightly sore arm and some dented pride. It will teach me to pay more attention to the road.

Many thanks to all concerned, especially Fethers. I haven't ridden like that for a long time and would also be keen to do it again.

Hi Charlie, glad you are OK

That ride back would have rated the best ride ever wasn't it

    Absolute magic

No trouble doin' the navigating again, I love it

At least it gives me time to take a few piccies while I'm waiting for you guys to catch up (he!...he!...)

Of course I also can't promise not to indicate a turn when all you can see is an open paddock again, just keep'n you guys on your toes

Remember though: "have faith, I know what I'm doing" or reality is that I can "ad lib" on the run..................what you don't know won't hurt you

I was on such a roll that day, that I forced myself to create the one & only U turn to make you guys happy

Good fun...hey?....................life's too short to not get lost.......................errrr that is, find new trails occasionally

    Cheers
