Have heard a lot of good things about Caroona Creek Conservation Park, I have never been there but wouldn't mind heading up during one of the cooler months this year & check it out..:ricky

Will be good to see your ride report.

    Cheers, Sol..:thumb

It's fast becoming one of my favourite 'quick getaway' destinations(but don't tell anyone!). Nice tracks, superb scenery up on the ridges, and the campsite is great too (flat, shelter, & drop loo). And only 40mins from Burra if you want a pub/bakery.

Have been up there in 30deg and wasn't too bad. Cools down at night nicely.

It's seriously over-rated. The public tracks lead nowhere and there's SFA to see on the other side of the ridge, other than mobs of mindless emus. You can't have a campfire and last time I was there, there wasn't even a single Swedish backpacking troupe to be seen. As far as holiday destinations go, it was very disappointing. The area around there is another thing entirely. It's a favorite riding area of mine - been out there quite a few times now. Beats the hell out of the mallee area. Mt Bryan East area school is the place to stay. See my 24hrs in 4 Days RR to see a little of what it has to offer. It's a great weekender run. Will always be thankful to Mid-North inmates DustySnow and Dodgy for introduciong me to this area. Love it. Get yourself a copy of the Carto Graphics "Mid North SA" map from their shop on Unley Road, Unley. Unlocks a lot of great riding/exploring.

The Mongolata Road is worth a ride, so long as they haven't graded it for a while.

I can vouch for the old school house. Firewood is a bit scarce there though.

Also before you guys go, be sure to call the tourism office at Burra and check the park is open - we found it closed on one occasion to due a feral cull (including Swedish ones apparently), so had to make some minor route alterations.

Would have liked to wait till its cooler, but the middle of the year is almost full already, including another inland trip (possibly Innaminka), plus my wife and I are doing a bit of our own 'cancer-free' celebrating OS in April. Throw in a mates wedding, obligatory bucks night/hangover weekend, Easter, family time, and work stuff, that's at least the next 6 months already gone!

    Gotta go when I can!

    Congratulations GS :clap

After Mrs MB was declared in remission in August, we planned to do just that too last December, but "the devil" was just hiding & came back to play. :pain

Trip canned within weeks of departure. :(:

I hope you can make the most of yours :jkam :wings

    Cheers

That really sux Kym, sorry to hear it. It's such a kick in the guts, especially after putting a lot of energy into being optimistic and hopeful throughout the whole journey:baldy, only to have to do it all again. And it's not easy for us blokes to watch our beloved go through it - the problem solvers that we naturally are, can't do a bloody thing (a lot of the time, anyway). :baldy:baldy:baldy:baldy:baldy

Here's hoping the little F*&%er is gone for good this time!

Mrs GS had an inoperable tumor, and has been thankfully in the clear for nearly 2 years now:clap:clap:clap:clap. My malignant thyroid nasty hasn't resurfaced in nearly 9 years now - so is likely a thing of the past.........permanently :clap Ten child-free days in Maui should do the trick.

Onwards and upwards I say....(and don't take a second for granted)!

I was talking to some guys yesterday who were discussing the potential up there now the oil has been found 'up the road'. I guess some aspects of other businesses would be getting excited too. Gee, I hope that you don't get too busy, it could eat into your riding time!!

My work career sunsets in about 6 weeks or so, my future involves using the maps and tracks I'm researching at the moment. Have I told you about my 2014 Cairns to Broome idea?? Just a few mates, northern winter, support, week's R & R in Darwin, and then Gibb River Rd (ish) to Broome and then many beers at the Sunset Bar at the Cable Beach Resort. Might transport the bikes out of there and fly home or continue the trip down to Alice on the Tanami. So far as the tracks are concerned I might need to entice MB to join in and sub-contract that aspect to the 'master'. Anyway, might not happen, but makes for great conversation around the beer fridge out the back on sunny afternoons.:freaky

Hope you enjoy your new bike...:clap

Man these TDU dickwads are everywhere, pain in the arse. How many cop cars and bikes do they need to escort them out of the CBD ?

Look on the bright side Gatey; with all of the speedies tied up the the TDU you couldn't pick a better time for a quick fang through the southern hills.
