Right in my backyard and real similar to what Hobbes950 and I will be doing tomorrow. We're meeting at Colfax Starbucks at 9:30 on big bikes and anybody with off road experience and a tube ( plug, patch .. or something) is welcome. There were still small chunks of snow roadside in Iowa Hill on Monday so I doubt we will make it out Elliott Ranch Rd (or Finning Mill) but will know more tomorrow.

Do you plan on rolling out at 9:30 or hanging out in Colfax for a few minutes?

Does my tube have to fit your bike? :D

Meeting at 9:30. Let us know if you can make it close to that. Maybe I will gas up in Colfax instead of Nevada City.

My night didn't go as planned, we had 3 calls and a grand total of an hour sleep. I'm going home for a nap.

This is what we found up by Elliot Ranch. This is a road north of Elliot Ranch and it was the same just before where Giant Gap meets Elliot Ranch.

Otherwise was a good day. Yankee Jims, Kings Hill, Finning Mill, Michigan Bluff, Ponderosa. A bit dusty, but not too bad. Wish I didn't have to work Tuesday.

If you want palms, you should reevaluate wanting to move to Sacramento! It does get hot as balls in the summer. And it also gets pretty darn cold in the winter. It's halfway in between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe and has almost none of the good parts of either. The best thing about Sac (to me, anyway) is that it's 2 hours to SF or Tahoe.

I don't know central CA all that well, but from what you said, I would say you should aim a bit further south and a lot closer to the coast.

    Good luck!

I agree. I've lived in sac most of my life... There's nothing here, but were close to EVERYTHING.

I concur. There isn't much here but shopping centers and chain restaurants. However, within an hour of slab you can be here:

please post when you get there. I want to do Plumbago/German Bar but I don't want to waste a run all the way up there to get turned around by snow.

I was figuring June but with this winter it may be earlier.

    Greetings,,,
Info: Talked to Carrie at Casey's and reports that Foots road is good to go but something about a wash out at German Bar but snow drifts above on that side... So that is still a no go as well as Chaulk Bluff having snow on the top by a Ranger (may not be valid).... I found snow drifts last week at 4300 so should open up soon... Thus will start this ride in Nevada City Area...

I road up last Friday and Tyler Foote is open and in great shape all the way into Allegheny, no problem for big bikes. There were two isolated snow drifts in a shaded area, probably gone now. I hit snow on the north slope climbing the ridge on Kanaka Creek, so I couldn't see any of Plumbago Rd. I tried gong up Hells Half Acre to come in from Henness Pass and got stopped buy snow near the top as well.

Cruzon Grade/Graniteville Rd was pretty bad about a mile past Back Bone, that looked like it would be slushy for at least a few more weeks. With that much snow on Graniteville access into German Bar will probably be pretty muddy
