I had some unused video footage from Peru so here you go.

What Peru looks like when you get off the Pan Am. :ricky

Well done. That's all I have to say. You've inspired me for ever now. What a trip. My mate from South Africa and my own Irish ass are going to do something like this in the future. This is what life's all about. Great stuff!:nod

Things are getting better all the time. I'm envious! Keep that keyboard warm and dry, boss. If this RR is anything like the last one it'll be absolutely outstanding.

Thanks for taking me (and a ton of other guys) along. :thumb

If there's one thing I missed getting right about my S/A trip it's that I didn't put enough effort into documenting the what / where / when part. Five years later I'd love to do it again but can't. Keep that camera and a pencil handy.

Great video, I have done parts of this on a mounting bike and I hope to do it next time I visit this place on a motorcycle.

Well that's a blast from the past. The funny thing is I bought the GoPro at the last minute before leaving and wasn't sure how to use it. I figured I have iMovie on my macbook so I could have some fun with it. Now I have over 60 videos documenting 2 years of travel in LA and an instant teleport back to some of my favorite experiences of the trip. :freaky

Sure let's meet up. Not sure where, but as always it is fun. Would love to pick your brain on riding. Right now I am in the RTW mode. Trying to figure a way to make it happen. Most likely I will be helping the McMillin team.

Well I've been going back and doing some repairs to posts where I lost some images and rereading everything has me longing for the road again. This is a nasty addiction for sure. There were a number of you who hung with me during the good, the bad, and the ugly and want to thank you all again. :freaky

Due to a expired cc and communication breakdown with Go Daddy I lost all my original blog content so I've started over and been mining this thread for all my journal posts.

Here's the new blog for those interested.

And I pledge to finish this report in the near future. :D

Resort life is wearing on me so I point the bike north, after so many months and miles riding south this “north” concept still seems foreign to me. The plan is to continue along the coast as much as possible bypassing Sao Paulo and making my way to Rio de Janeiro, but not before visiting my friend Raf (miratesMT on advrider.com) in Volta Redonda.

I welcome the imagery as I get closer to Rio de Janeiro, it’s appealing and has a vibe that piques my curiosity. After too many long and eventless riding days I feel myself slipping back into a slow trajectory, something I look forward to as a traveler.

I call it quits for the day in the colonial town of Paraty where I arrive as some local festivities are underway. I find reasonable accommodations and I’m pleasantly surprised by the bountiful breakfast they offer the following morning. The food in Brasil continues to impress.

It should be a light riding day to Raf’s place so I don’t feel the usual rush to get on the road. I exit Paraty well rested and with a full stomach, a great way to start the riding day. I’m transported through lush vegetation and a gentle rise in elevation as I ride along the cobblestone roadways and through the dark tunnels of RJ 155 intoVolta Redonda.

I spend a few days in VR enjoying the hospitality of Raf and his better half and taking in the markets and of course great food offerings. I’m always appreciative when someone takes me in on the road as it’s an opportunity to feel less like a tourist which can be tiring at times. Any place that has an ample supply of fresh pineapple is alright in my book.

Raf runs a tour company out of Rio and spends his days guiding travelers coming to Brasil for climbing, hiking, or just to take in the diverse culture. We spend some time at the shop and he’s quick to offer me intel on routes and points of interest in the region. Here are Raf’s contact details for those interested:

But our conversation always returns to Rio. It’s not very often I get excited about big cities but I have to admit I suffer from the mysterious allure that attracts thousands to Rio de Janeiro every year and I look forward to the ride there tomorrow.
