Was actually thinking making Butterfield (or another place) the meet point. We would have a good mix of big bike & small bike options. I for one would love to bring my 530 and explore around the area.

Morning dawns at the OMS (Occupy Mobile Station) Rally

    Blake holding court
    [IMG]

Think I was originally slated for group 4, but got conscripted into group 5 (HoW)

Group leader CA Stu was in a hurry to roll
    [IMG]

    SoCalPhil and spafxr
    [IMG]

Thru the orchards and aiming for Nate Harrison
    [IMG]

    Regrouping at the S7 pavement
    [IMG]

Made our way past Mother's and down East Grade before the fog packed in
    [IMG]

    Fun stuff
    [IMG]

A little more blue sky and sunshine approaching Lake Henshaw
    [IMG]

Rolled into The Hideout fairly early and waited for other groups to arrive before heading inside for lunch
    [IMG]

One of these 'skewters' is not like the other ones
    [IMG]

Lunch was followed by a little piece of Mesa Grande for desert
    [IMG]

Thought I took more pics of Black Canyon, but the only one that showed was the very end approaching Ramona
    [IMG]

A few dozen miles of pavement (Hwy78>Hwy79>S2>S3) took us to the top of Grapevine Canyon
    [IMG]

Caught up with another group on the descent into the canyon
    [IMG]

Their smooth sweep rider waved me by and I tried to pass as clean as possible
    [IMG]

Nearing San Felipe creek, more blue sky ahead
    [IMG]

Stopped at Hwy78 to regroup the group
    [IMG]

    Riders trickling in
    <iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="800" height="450" src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/1709325475_8SLWPJJ?width=800&height=450"></iframe>

Stopped at Stagecoach for supplies then made the Blair Valley loop on the way to camp
    [IMG]

    Setting up at Butterfield
    [IMG]

Managed to find a spot with what turned out to be very good wind protection
    [IMG]

Sure it was a little cold, but standing IN the fire seemed a bit extreme

Tent maker extraordinaire! Great shot with H8chains and the rainbow over Banner grade. Fun riding with you Caleb (sp?), you did a great job at sweep.

I would have liked to continue on but I was cold and wet and ready to get off that mountain. Once I got to the 15 it was pretty warm and partly sunny. :thumb

In two hours I was home!

Hey Arny(sp) you got the spelling perfect, great riding with you as well.

You were fast on that KRL, and I thought they were slow, I'm not going to believe anything I read on the internet any more:rofl

Waiting for the sun to rise on sunday morning
    [IMG]

The fog conveniently stayed on the other side of the mountains
    [IMG]

Wasn't paying attention yesterday and missed my 65k mile mark
    [IMG]
(I've got every 5k since she was 'new')

All packed up and ready to roll
    [IMG]

Getting off to a fairly relaxed start ~9am
    [IMG]

A quick couple miles up S2 to Oriflamme
    [IMG]

Got mixed in with another group in the first sand wash section
    [IMG]

Lost track of the guys I was with so adopted the sweep position
    [IMG]

This GS8 rider (Ron?) was moving along steady until the dirt turned to marbles
    [IMG]
He soon after turned back towards pavement. Did he make it out?

browneye (?) on a cheater bike made it look easy
    [IMG]

FuzzyNugs (?) had circled back to check on the holdup ... or maybe he just wanted to ride the marbles again
    [IMG]
(My first street legal bike was a KLR250. Lots of fun until I killed it.)

spafxr cleaned it with smooth and steady throttle control
    [IMG]

Did my best to keep an eye on the final four until they made it to the top. Ride ahead a bit, then take pics as they worked their way up the grade. In the end, they all made it up without assistance :clap

    Looking back down the canyon
    [IMG]

    There they are
    [IMG]

The pillion on the two-up Tiger was a trooper and walked/jogged most of the way up :thumb
    [IMG]

Very cold and windy hanging out at the switchback, also starting to sprinkle a bit
    <iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="800" height="450" src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/1709328651_h6SmrVL?width=800&height=450"></iframe>

This rocky section looked intimidating, but I think actually easier than the marbles down below
    [IMG]

Just where does this road go? :dunno
    [IMG]

The BMW Xcountry found a rut and needed Xtraction
    [IMG]

FuzzyNugs (?) rounding the last bend and powering to the top
    <iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" width="800" height="450" src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/1709336406_gBtMcXv?width=800&height=450"></iframe>

Once everyone was in the clear, I bid farewell and hustled north down Chariot Canyon. Didn't see anyone else the entire way.

    Fun road :ricky
    [IMG]

    Chariot Mine
    [IMG]

    Rainbow over Banner
    [IMG]

Nearly 11am by the time I got out to the Hwy78. Looked cold and wet up around Julian. Needed to make tracks towards home anyhow, so turned right towards friendlier skies.

    Cool :thumb
    [IMG]

Skipped S2 and took Grapevine Canyon (again) instead
    [IMG]

Turned right up Jasper Trail just before the ranch
    [IMG]

Fun, but probly a good thing it had not been used on saturday's route. Tighter, sandier, and a couple washed out climbs.

Made up some time on Hwy79 around to Chihuahua Valley where I pickedup the Cooper-Cienega TT
    [IMG]

A blade had been run thru since last I was here (~1yr ago) making for a quick pace
    [IMG]

    Heading for Anza
    [IMG]

Detour thru Terwilliger around the Cahuilla Indian Res
    [IMG]

Bautista Canyon on the way to Valle Vista
    [IMG]

Skirted around Hemet, then took one last break on Jack Rabbit Trail before 'hopping' on the highway for home
    [IMG]
