Later this week Im going to look at 2 sand rails. but I have to decide on buying just one. tough decision here. anybody ever owned one of these? My dad and grandpa have both owned some dune buggys which im sure has a very similar motor but this will be my first rail car. Neither car has a trailer hitch installed but whichever I get im going to stick a hitch on the back and find a trailer to haul bikes out to ride locations. heres pics and details of both

    RED ($5000)

I need to sell my VW powered rail buggy. Look at the pics, you will see that it is killer nice. It starts runs and drives great. It is a blast to drive. it has many new parts including:
    new Grant steering wheel
new quick release for steering wheel
    new sprint car easy entry
    new 34 PICT carb
new steering shaft and "U" joint
    new rack and pinion
    new tie rods
    new starter switch
    new super shifter
    new oil cooler with fan
    new polished aluminum axle beam
    new Monroe front shocks
    new air cleaner
    new brake hose clips
    new LED license plate light
    new license plate holder
    new brake light switch
    new $500 PRP seats
    new custom Yarnell shocks
    new billet side view mirrors
    new seat belts
    $795 rebuilt Rancho Suspensions transmission
new front and rear BR polished aluminum wheels
    new Goodyear radials
    new battery and box
new polished stainless steel gas tank
    New gauges

I have the clear title in hand. This is titled as an 1984. It has a 1600 dual port engine. Only thing wrong is a slight oil leak. Come see, drive and make an offer. I also have a 67 Beetle for sale.

    GREEN ($6600)

This is fully registered, insured, plated, and titled. No paperwork issues or hoops to jump through.

engine is a 1775 with dual carbs

Brand new plugs, wires, rotor, cap. Brand new starter.

4 - speed transmission with less than 470 miles on clutch. J MAR pedal and brake kit.

Solid aluminum roof and floor panels. Tires are like new.

Spooled aluminum fuel tank with pressure regulator and safety cut off.

4 wheel disc brakes and e brake modulator. REAL glass windshield

    47 MPG !!!!!!

lights are fully functional as well as the horn, turn signals, etc.

Quick disconnect steering wheel (on & off in less than 20 seconds).

If you are looking to have a blast this is for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fastest I have had it is 120 MPH. after that the front end starts to float.

$6,600.00 My price is firm. Only trades I would be interested in are for a box truck (no u-hauls) with lift gate or a cargo van 2002 or newer. Must be of equal value or higher.

Will also consider partial trades for a high quality 300 Blackout or possibly an AR.

INCLUDE A PHONE NUMBER OR YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE.

They're designed to be light on the front end

    Not to tow motorcycles

I suppose you could put a tool box on the front though :lol3

The trick to towing anything is to get the hitch ball and hitch attachment point lower than the centerline of the axle (or at least no higher than). Otherwise any towed load will try to lift the front on acceleration and push it down on decel since it is designed to ride very light up front.

Top is a High Jumper Sand Sprite 2 with a coilover rear suspension..KICK ASS Chassis..bottom is a JSC Invader, ho-hum...welded up about 200 when I was working my way through college in the 80's. The top one has a Kingpin front end which is better for off road but harder to repair if worn out than the balljoint front end on the bottom one..plus it's (top one) got either a JT or Jamar front beam. I always thought ball joint front ends on a rail where butt ugly due to the shock towers.

The top one is a basic 1600CC VW engine, which will get the job done like a DRZ200 with a fat man on it. The 1775 (actually 1776, as it is 90.5 bore by 69mm stroke) will fare a little better. I used to run in the 2180CC to 2275CC range in my VW's. However, the 1600 will run forever s long as you keep oil in it.

    Both look like Jamar hydraulics...

Top one looks like Beard Super seats ($$$) but hard to tell. Bottom one basic fiberglass. Top one also has what looks like either a Jamar or Bugpack rack and pinion...pretty cool.

Top is a swingaxle trans, which is more durable than a T-1 IRS off road (T-2 whole different story)..can't tell on the bottom, but it has a T-1 IRS torsion housing...

I'd go with the the High Jumper (top)...that's not a bad price. Engines are cheap and easy to build when you want some HP.

Look at how it is titled. If it is titled as a VW Beetle, it may make it difficult to get insurance...also I had a buddy years ago who had his titled that way, and when got in an accident the insurance company didn't want to pay, as the title said "2 door" and he had none !!

Put a hitch on it. It'll pull a light 3 rail trailer and Bike just fine.

Got the FSE!! what an ass kicker this thing is! previous owner worked for gas gas in tampa something technical services something. came with a shit ton of extra gas gas goodies including software for the efi, 13:1 piston, high lift cams, full exhaust, full set of extra plastics, original brand new graphics kit, and other odds and ends! did you know Gas Gas is Spanish for "BEAT KTM"?? :deal :D

That 650R sold though so I wont be getting it. I might however may be looking at either a street legal XR600R OR a XR650L and picking one of the two. not sure yet.

i dont know if you know of anybody to ride with yet with the sand rail, but i hooked up with the tampa bay buggy club a guy named dave, when we ride its pretty much like when i used to ride with people off adv.great people, always ready to help you out.they are going out to onf next weekend for a ride,i cant go ill be out of town though.i dont know if your going to take the rail off road or not,but i have learned some good lessons.
#1 you would obviously need some off road tires on the back
#2 if it is a swingaxle rear suspension it will be rough,it will be more durable though.i converted mine to irs,100% better, although when i did i didnt use beetle cvs,i used type 4 cvs.never looked back.
#3 wear googles, the sand will come under and around the windsheild like its not even there in buckets from the front tires
#4 make sure you at least have a outerwears pre filter on your air filter, the sand plugs the idle jets badly on all the stock style pic carbs
#5 stay away from mud if your windshield isnt glass
#6 link pin front end is better than ball joint for off road
#7 be careful with the aluminum beam on the front, ive seen a couple break on hard, hard use.might never be a issue though,im talking rails that were jumped hard.
#8 if it dont already have rear disc brakes, get some, they are much, much better in the rear than the drums.i even had the better type 3 rear drums.night and day difference.

okay... to all the conservative little bitches that freak out over anything written on paper.... man the fuck up!!! do what you like! ride where you like! who gives a flying fuck that some government asshole put a sign saying "you cant do this here". what if someone told you you can no longer enter your own house without paying a 5$ fee? would you do it? im starting to think you little girls WOULD! fuck that noise! if someone REALLY wanted to stop you from doing something, they would! you wanna rape little kids? go ahead, but me and just about every other person in the world is gonna find you and kick your ass! you wanna ride your dirt bike on some questionable trails? sand rail? atv? go ahead! who the fuck is gonna care! sure someone will start bitching and moaning and urge the gov to put up a new law saying you cant do that, but if they REALLY wanted to stop you, trust me, they would. dont get caught in the act and your fine. put up whatever videos you want. hell, put up a video doing wheelies on your KTM in the police station parking lot! that would be a riot! stop being a bunch of little bitches and do what you think is fun. youll know if your doing something wrong when you finally get thrown in jail. in the mean time im enjoying my freetime and haveing a blast while you ladies are whipped left right and center taking orders from some asshole who is no different from me or you. its just a bunch of shit on paper anyway. like i said, if they REALLY wanted to stop you, they WILL. in the mean time, enjoy your self and ride where you want and do what you want!
