Planning to ride them hills west 'o Scappoose this coming Sunday, hoping the weather will cooperate somewhat. Tentatively planning a start from NW Portland at about 10 am, meeting at Grand Central Bakery and Cafe between 9:30 and 10, depending on if you want to do breakfast or just a quick cup of coffee.

It will be mostly gravel and logging-type roads, though there are plenty of opportunities for diversions into some slicker stuff. I will be on my DR350. You can do the dance with a bigger bike, opting out of the muddy sections. Thinking: Dixie Mt - Pottratz - Rabinsky - ...

    Who's in?

Grand Central: 2249 NW York St. I-405 to Hwy 30; right on Nicolai; first right on 22nd; right on York. It's a green building you can see from Hwy 30.

Since that ride we did, I've found a much better\more interesting\looped route. I can't find the thread from that ride.

What I like about keeping it a little bit more south is we can ride out Skyline and within 10 minutes of hitting the end of skyline, we'd be on overgrown two-track dirt. Fun.

We don't have to, but one of the most enjoyable way to do the loop has this in it. It's big. It's muddy (or will be.) It's doable however. We can do the loop skipping this too. I've helped get a bone-stock KLR650 up this, so I know it can be done. Not sure about Anakees though! Again, it's easily skipped.

Wade, by "more south" I assume you mean south of Scappoose. Yeah, I was thinking of starting in that generally area (e.g. up Rocky Point Rd) ... and just seeing where we end up.

Cool. I wish I could find the map from that ride we did... It was a really big loop. I don't have the time to search through all my threads right now though. Maybe someone else does. :evil

But, basically, these power-line trails are really fun and connect to all other kinds of interesting roads that may or may not have impassable gates at other places.... :evil

I'm in for some of that! (This is the reason I burn through TKC 80's instead of buying ankanees. To each their own.)

I would rather we not ride anything like that hill and have everyone be able to ride with us. :D

No worries. The ride and terrain will be based on the participants and bikes. I'd hate for someone to not join us because of the tread on their tires. In fact, I've been in the same situation, wondering pre-ride if me, my 650, and Tourances would be up to it -- on a particular ride. See you Sunday morning!

Matloik also knows it. We can stay out of the dirt and ride gravel, there is plenty of it.

Good ride. I ducked off to head back home right away, I thought something was wrong with my tire, but it actually was fine. I just need to get used to this tire I guess... Or it sucks.

This is how the day ended:

    Hahaha, figures.

A lot of the gates up there are unlocked right now. Some neat riding.

Great ride! And great job Matizzle and miah66 on keeping it upright, with the tires you had, in the few sloppy sections we hit. The weather actually turned out not bad at all, even though this pic looks a little bit ominous.
