Reed Valves? What is a reed valve, anyway? Do I really need to know what it does?

Also, why does my Stella go faster with a Sito+ than with the stock exhaust? I mean, they both look alike. Is there some sort of space-age polymer technology inside the squarish black thingy attached to the pipe thingies?

I don't know, but I'm gonna follow your lead and ditch my snarling, noisy JL for the more muted classiness of the Sito + for a more zen-like approach to Stella-ing.

PS - I think the reed valve determines how many reeds are let into the engine.

If you open up the reed valve all the way, you get lots of reeds.

If you close it, you don't get as many reeds.

Why that engine needs reeds is beyond me. They're stringy and difficult to put in the gas tank.

I can see you never were in the woodwind section of the band. we all know reeds are what make the music hence the term tuning the bike.

No no no....they're what you get beat with. Remember what Doctor Evil said? "When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds. Pretty Standard"...

The reed valve determines how fast you get beaten.....

so that is it I guess that explains when I changed from steel to carbon fiber the exhaust note of the bike did not change but less people beat me.

Oh, follow the lead of R1150GSA? You might as well hurl yourself off of a cliff immediately.

I have a Malossi pipe, which for you unwashed masses, is the supreme example of a 2 stroke pipe. It's a race pipe, and you know what that means?

It means I'll stomp all of you any day.

Now I'm confused. Do I follow R1150GSA or BreadMan?

    Which one?

    Who do I listen to?

    This is awful.

    OOooooo! 2 to 1!

Waitaminute. But I've got a JL/SIP, so that puts me on BreadMan's team.

    :scratch

Sharks and the Jets. There's gonna be a rumble.

You know, if I didn't LIKE my neighbors I'd keep the JL on there and be proud of its motocrosser exhaust note. :lol3

But they're cool, so I'm gonna quiet the bike a bit.

I need to figure out the jetting for 177 Pinasco, 24G and Sito+. Math is hard. :cry

Photog, I'd assume our setup is similiar except for your crappy and obviously inferior exhaust. :D

    I'm running a 160/BE4/116

I forget my idle jet though.

It runs good except at low RPM's and I just need to get my mixture straight. I would start with something around that setup. JohnTM has a 120 jet that I sent him if you want to go BIG!

This website is so stupid. No one even knows the answers to my questions.

What a stupid website. That's why JohnTM and Breadman like it so much, I bet.

    Stupid.

actually your question was ans. It is a reed in the intake not unlike the reed on a clarinet. As the back pressure goes accross it, it closes there by not letting the fuel air load out of the crankcase.

ps I even told you what most of them are made of.

Damn you, I'm trying to drink my coffee and record the one missing session of the DIY Scooter rebuild series.

Now that I have the missing episode, I'm going to put all four on a DVD, it will help give me courage when I strip her down. Temps are down, once the riding season becomes sporadic, I'm strippin her down.

As to your knowlege of 2stroke intake system it is surley better then my own.

ps and of course I am a dummy why else would I be posting here.

Well, I guess my Stella must have an oboe reed system. It's so fast that it requires two reeds. The rest of you probably only have the single-reed system. That's sad for you. Cheer up, though. At least you can say you know me. A winner.
