Hey guys, I'll be riding through some areas in your neighborhood in a few days and I would like some tips if you can help.

I'm interested in Montrenegro and Bosnia, I plan on starting from Kotor and I want to take a loop through Bosnia then finally reaching Novi Sad.

I would like to see Mostar and Livno (is the town or the areas around any good?) then go north, north east. I have ridden From Tara to Zlatibor through Visegrad and I want to avoid Ibarska Magistrala so a more northern cross into Serbia would be preferable.

I am interested in scenic roads, light off-road is OK and any suggestions on interesting places to visit is welcome.

    Hvala! :freaky

Don't know the route from Mostar to Livno, but it's a damn pity not to visit Sarajevo, and the road from Sarajevo to Zvornik is a damn race-track (one part of it really is the part of a hill rally), but it's all off if you're off to Livno which i wasn't at. For the second part, the part in Serbia I can be of more help, I'm from Sremska Mitrovica, which is some 50km from the border, depending on where you will be crossing, and it's a halfway to Novi Sad. Be sure to call, I'll direct you through the Fruska Gora national park

Thanks for the reply Nicolic.. I guess the others are already out for the summer...

About Sarajevo, I would like to see it, but generally big cities on a bike for a solo traveller are a bit problematic. I will have to find secure parking hotel, I will have to ride through heavy traffic looking at the gps etc..

What I might do is ride through the center, stop for a quick walk and some cevapi and sleep somewhere out of the city...

So far I have this general route (it still open for suggestions):

    Kotor
    Niksic
    Durmitor
    Scepan Polje
    Tjentiste
    Mostar

Then I could do Jablanica - Sarajevo or go Livno - Jaice and then Sarajevo...

From Sarajevo Svornik and then cross into Serbia... (which is better M18 or M19??)

I might give you a shout as I come through Sremska Mitrovica, I usually go through Fruska Gora, I can't stand the flatness of Vojvodina... :rofl

    What do you think?

I would go for a border at Loznica, and than you have two ways to go. One is for Sabac than Ruma and Novi Sad, which is a main road, with a lot of trucks, or before Sabac, there is a turn for Bogatic and Sremska Mitrovica. It all depends on what time do you plan on passing through, if you have spare time, I can show you some nice things around here. If you need a place to stay, I'm sure I can organize something ;)

Thanks for the offer man! My wife is from Novi Sad and she will be waiting there with our kids, I know that when getting close I will want to get there sooner than later, that's why I made no promises about looking you up... I'll pm you my data and we'll see... Is the road through Bogatic any good? If yes I might choose that route...

The road itself is fine, but be careful these guys don't know how to drive agricultural mechanics, or maybe not drunk as they tend to be! When you get to Sremska Mitrovica, try to find Bike-cafe, I'm sure I'll be somewhere around it :)

    Hi, guys!

I plan to drive my Husky SM to Montenegro at the end of March (one week).

I'm looking for the offroad/dirt road trails in Montenegro (or around) with spectacular views - and ones that are manageable for a middleweight (160 kilo) bike. I did HardAlpiTour on this one, so riding "solid" trails/easy rocks should not be a problem. Maybe I will manage to put 21-18" wheels on it.

The general plan is to get my bike to Montenegro in end of March, ride for a week or so. My native language is Russian - so talking with locals won't be a big problem.

So, I'd appreciate any GPX tracks/route suggestions/ride with locals. Weather/snow info would also be awesome.

    WBR,
    Aleksandr

Ok... I'll see what I can do. Looks like the best way is to stick to the Coastline and change everything depending on current situation...

I'll simply loose those days, if I won't go....

Ershn8d, the weather in March, April and even May in the mountains can bring snowfall and temps can go bellow zero :D.

I would stick myself to the coastal line, but if you're passing through Plitvice lakes, you can experience snow there to. It would be shame to skip UNESCO's heritage place like Plitvice lakes, but if the weather doesn't permits riding, especially on SM tires :eek1 , you can travel over Slovenia to Istria, and then from Rijeka take the coastal road.

If you passing through Zagreb, cold beer is always in the fridge, see my signature :beer

    Hello, :clap

I am currently living in Novi Sad, Serbia and wondering if anyone has experience or could help me find information on purchasing a bike here and then shipping it back to North America in a year or so...

    Hvala.

Hi everyone, I'm on my way to Mongolia from Portugal with my Africa Twin, and I'm currently in Montenegro. I was wondering if someone can tell me how's the weather and whats the best route from here to Turkey.

I was thinking to go to Tirana next, then do the Fierza ferry, then Prizren, Skojpe, Sofia and Istanbul. What do you guys think? I notest that Albania is full of mountains so probably its not wise to go to south of Tirana and what about Kosovo, Macedonia and Bulgaria? I really didn't want to go to Greece, been there done that. So give me your opinion. Here's the route I'm planning to follow: https://www.google.ch/maps/dir/Fierza,+Albania/Kuk%C3%ABs,+Albania/Skopje,+Macedonia/Burgas,+Bulgaria/Sozopol,+Bulgaria/Malko+Tarnovo,+Bulgaria/istanbul/@41.8477427,22.3597024,8z/am=t/data=!4m54!4m53!1m10!1m1!1s0x13523e8de5e7d3f7:0xab811b7a0cdc0c18!2m2!1d20.0181673!2d42.2600658!3m4!1m2!1d20.188378!2d42.093082!3s0x13522f00109a1f2b:0x90c4963e33963e55!1m10!1m1!1s0x1353d1fc41be466b:0x9ad4fb9029a87ae9!2m2!1d20.416667!2d42.066667!3m4!1m2!1d20.962107!2d42.173993!3s0x13538cf838b81f61:0x30b7a54b5536b866!1m5!1m1!1s0x135415a58c9aa2a5:0xb2ed88c260872020!2m2!1d21.4279956!2d41.9973462!1m5!1m1!1s0x40a69266f9fc9d91:0x400a01269bf4df0!2m2!1d27.4626361!2d42.5047926!1m5!1m1!1s0x40a6c7f5573ae503:0xf46ad844a446db20!2m2!1d27.6961748!2d42.4172628!1m5!1m1!1s0x40a0cd2686262307:0x9c345cd47ddcea6b!2m2!1d27.5250475!2d41.9797938!1m5!1m1!1s0x14caa7040068086b:0xe1ccfe98bc01b0d0!2m2!1d28.97696!2d41.00527!3e0?hl=en

    Hello Joao ..Still in MNE?

Weather seems fine and you should have nice trip. Map seems ok. From Shkoder on the road to Tirana turning left to Kukes takes you on the (kind of) highway to Kosovo. I don't understand thou the part in Turkey? Why not from Plovdiv directly to Istanbul?

Hi Goran, thanks for your help. I'm now in Tirana with a flat tire, but except for that everything's been great. I wasn't sure to go to Istanbul from here through Greece or Macedonia, but I think I know now. From Tirana I'll go to Prizren (Kosovo), then Skopje (Macedonia) through Sharr national Park, followed by Sofia (Bulgaria) and finally Istanbul (Turkey). https://www.google.ch/maps/dir/Tirana,+Albania/Prizren/%22Sharr+Mountains%22+National+Park/Skopje,+Macedonia+(FYROM)/Sofia,+Bulgaria/Plovdiv,+Bulgaria/%C4%B0stanbul,+Turkey/@41.7040409,19.5886154,6z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m46!4m45!1m5!1m1!1s0x1350310470fac5db:0x40092af10653720!2m2!1d19.8186982!2d41.3275459!1m5!1m1!1s0x1353950a12f4301f:0xda0e2e9b8d3d5850!2m2!1d20.7414739!2d42.2152585!1m5!1m1!1s0x13538e95f9429fcd:0xc7758e932533433b!2m2!1d20.92682!2d42.202474!1m5!1m1!1s0x135415a58c9aa2a5:0xb2ed88c260872020!2m2!1d21.4279956!2d41.9973462!1m5!1m1!1s0x40aa8682cb317bf5:0x400a01269bf5e60!2m2!1d23.3218675!2d42.6977082!1m5!1m1!1s0x14acd108a248763d:0x6470d1fa6f1338a0!2m2!1d24.7452904!2d42.1354079!1m5!1m1!1s0x14caa7040068086b:0xe1ccfe98bc01b0d0!2m2!1d28.97696!2d41.00527!2m1!2b1!3e0?hl=en

This way I won't be able to do Ohrid Lake, Meteora or the road from Metsovo to Thessaloniki (both in Greece), which look amazing, but I really wanted to see more of the Balkans, instead of going to Greece.

Just two more things, is the weather alright in the route in the map? And finally from Sofia to Istanbul what's a good place to stay? From Plovdiv to Isntabul is a long ride to do in one day and maybe there's a better place to stay in between? Also do you guys know what's the best border to enter Turkey, or is that irrelevant.

    Thanks!
