I have tried searching for the "Movie Review Thread" in JM using the word "Movie" and "Review", neither option return the thread started by Rocky Raccoon. The search function works for other threads. Can someone else search for this and see if it pops up? I finally found the thread by searching for specific movie titles.

Not necessarily what you are asking about, but many times I find what I am seeking by backing out to Google,
and punching in something about the subject you are after and then include "ADV RIDER" and I normally find what I lost via Google.

Typing site:advrider.com after the search terms will restrict google to the site named. However, it will not work on areas that are not visible without an account. Meaning it won't help for the specific thing OP's looking for.

I found that the search will find it if I open the search to all areas. Strange that a search restricted to JM pulls up titles from CSM. I was wondering if it was something I was doing wrong.

I'm assuming you were using the Advanced Search in order to narrow the results to a specific section. If you don't want it to include CSM, uncheck the 'Search child forums as well' checkbox. CSM is a child of JM.

I just realized I didn't test the search to see if I could replicate your attempt. By searching Movie Review Thread, and unchecking the child forums option, I get it on the first page. Though near the bottom of results. However, if I check the box to search titles only, then I only get three results and it's one of them. If I only use the search terms Movie Review, searching titles but not child forums, I get 18 results and it's one of them.

Thanks. When I first did the search I only used the term “Movie”.
