My 90/6 is listed with a production date of 8/1975 when I put my serial number into realoem.com.

The seat that is currently on my ride is listed as a "first series /6" type seat by Siebenrock - here is the seat I currently have:

There is a good 1 inch gap between the seat and the tank - I was wondering if I had the right seat or not. Maybe the correct one is this:

    My questions:

Given the production date, is the "first series" seat the stock seat for my bike? Are the seats the same length, or would the later "regular" /6 seat fit my bike better?

Good question. As far as I know the actual seat didn't change. But in 1975 the seat came with cross pleats and no white piping. The early seat had longitudinal pleats. Maybe someone else can step in on this one who know different. JT

Yes you have the wrong seat. Most likely a /7 seat. I had this problem with the R75/5 I recenly purchased. Below is the before shot

Would I be correct in assuming you have the Tank with the rubber sidepanels?
I sold the seat that came on the bike and purchased a new one from Siebenrock. Its a nice setup too.

Gotcha, thanks jtwind - my upholstery has the piping and logitudinal pleats, so I have the pre '75 seat. Since my production date was well into '75, I am going get the "regular" /6 seat from Siebenrock eventually.

From the piping and pleats, I'm pretty sure it's a /6 seat, just an earlier design. I do have the knee pads (rubber sidepanels) on the bike, tho.

Although it would seem unlikely that the actual seat size would change on a /6 between '74 and '75, below is a side shot of the gap between my tank seat.

Is this type of gap between the tank and seat normal?

There is a small gap but I would think it is not too far away.
As you could see on my 75/5 it was at least 2" away.
    Pic below is a 60/6 with no gap . . .
