This is a big dirt bike. It's very, VERY powerful! Not a good bike for a beginner. It easily does wheelies in all gears. It is setup for a 160lbs rider right now. But all xrs are for 160lbs riders. 277 dry weight. Kickstart only. It starts pretty easy. Harder to kick when cold, I start it usually with 10 kicks when its dead cold. After warm up, its 1-2 kicks.

Until I'm employed again it's out of my price range, but just the same I'd like to check it out. Perhaps one of the upcoming rides you can log some miles on the /5 and I can check out the XR?

Sounds good. It can't be a long ride, cause I got knobbies on it, and its not a comfortable ride. Longest Ive ridden on it was 200 miles in a day.

Comfortabe for a dirt bike, but it isnt a gs.

It can also beat a bmw gs up to 100mph. (if you can get the front wheel down) :D

Something lighter, with an electric start for racing hare scrambles. Not sure what yet. What do you suggest?

Trailer it. There is no way to really ride a dirt bike on the street without heavily wearing the knobbies.

I will dual sport it, just because I like connecting trails via roads. But riding on the road sucks.

I trailered the xr just about everywhere. Only rode on the road when I had street tires, or I rode locally.

Selling the BRP!? :huh Better be for a 525exc, everthing else will seem wimpy.

I keep a 15T countershaft sprocket for riding on the street which helps a lot. It's really not that bad on the old 600 and the 650R should be even better because of it's smoother engine.

I agree though, "not that bad" on the road is a far cry from a real street bike like GS/Vstrom. And the asphalt does play hell on the knobbies. I was keeping my eyes open for a spare set of wheels that I could mount trailwings on and keep for local street rides becuase it really is fun to tool around town on.

Are there any dealers around who do demos of the 525EXC? Or are there any AdvRiders around who have one and want to swap with my 12? :deal
