    OK....let's see.

In addition to TanastyRob's description, I'd like to add a few more words:

    Bent brake lever
    dropped bikes
    no more music
    twisted bark busters
    flopping bark busters
    thrown chains
    twisted forks
    radiator fans
    cool creek beds
    hand saws
    dry camelbacks
    broken kick stands
    broken clutch lever
    drowned bike
    wet feet
    oh yeah....and 1/2 more mile......"I think" :lol3

After about 20 miles of slab we finally hit the rim of the gorge, or "gulf" as the locals call it.

Looking out at land having it's timber harvested:

Looking up to the rim....can you see the machine that pulls the logs up?

    Hey IHF....

    Many beautiful creek views:

After picking bikes up from a greasy downhill the boys need a break:

    Typical trail sections:

The trail went down the creek many times:

    TR pickin' his way:

    <IFRAME height=349 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bM8JEGEpJIw" frameBorder=0 width=425 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

The coolness of the creek botoms caused a fog

Better cool off and take a break. We've got plenty of time:

Hey TN-S...... I took this picture for you :lol3

TR....at :23 he didn't know his rear sprocket was up against that rock. Threw his chain:

    <IFRAME height=349 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LLqf4ByPLlo" frameBorder=0 width=425 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Just when we had a whoopin' handed to us by a rough creek crossing, we came around the corner to find this:

We knew there was no turning back so we broke out the saw, cut through two 8 inch branches, moved alot of branches out of the way and found a way to get the bikes over. It was NO easy task. This is when we started running out of water.

I remember thinking it was about 1:30. I asked TK what time it was, he said 4:40 ! ! ! !

BTW, it you ever go on a rough ride, make sure you take TK. He is the " Human Tow Truck ". He probably lifted a cumulative 2,000 more pounds than anyone else :eek1. Thanks dude :clap

We were 95% of the way out, sun starting to get low in the hollers and we hit our last challenge......a little creek crossing:

TK pickin' his line.....then TR gettin' cooled off a little :evil :

    <IFRAME height=349 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d_KcACbWBLA" frameBorder=0 width=425 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Fortunatley TR's bike started after a few tries. That dude was shooting water 20 feet out of it's tailpipe like a jet engine :lol3

    AJ almost makes it:

CRAP....not ANOTHER issue to deal with:

After that crossing, everyone was shot:

AJ rode out the last mile or so without a clutch, WP was a bonafide zombie, TR wasn't talking to me and TK was sick of pulling our bikes out of holes

We finally hit pavement and rolled thru Sequatchie, Jasper and stopped at the interstate. Lunch at Wendy's at 6:20. We ate about 5 pounds of beef and potatoes.

We all aired up and decided to take the interstate back. 25 miles to the truck. It was nice ride back. Cool sunset, up and down the mountain and time to reflect on the challenge that had been met !

From the riding I've done, I would rate that ride an 8.5 on the scale of "doable". Much more and it simply would have been impassable.

I sure hope you guys are all looking back and saying "HELLYEA! " I know I am. What a ride, what a team effort and what a riding accomplishment ............... at least that's what I'm telling myself :lol3

That looks like an awesome ride! Can you post (or PM) some details on how to get to those trails? I don't live very far from there, and would love to check that out.

Ihatefalling would be the one to ask. Here is a map he posted in the Middle TN Q2 section.

Hey AJ....thanks for puting the thread together !

RJ....if you look at that map, we started in Pelham and took the red line.

If you change the basemap to "my topo" (upper right corner) you can see where the red line climbed out of the gulf. That is an easy out. Our mistake was dropping back in where we did, line turns green. That put us in a less travelled gulf.

Where we came out, we should have just stayed down in there and made our way out that way.

I might ride down there again on the 17 or 24. Keep an eye on the "Mid TN Q2 ride schedule 2010"...that where we cook stuff up.

Also, I plan on doing a 2 day recon ride there on July 30 & 31. Keep your eyes open.

Just a heads up....it is an all day rock ride. Heavy duty tubes. Guards. Bark Busters. etc....

It is an awesome place so far. Might be my new favorite.

WP, At that moment (end of video) when you were cooling off in the rocks was when it hit me, "We could be in trouble with the heat. " I had no idea up to that point you had already hit the wall.:knary

Nice ride report. You guys have some GPS tracks of your ride from hell? I don't live but an hour or two from that area. It looks like typical east coast woods/trial riding which is a bitch on anything porky enough to carry a tag. This looks alot like the stuff at CMRA, Cumberland Mountain Riders Association. Accept all their trails are single track.

Yes....it's on the other side of 24 from CMRA.
    Do you ride CMRA?
    I've been a few times.
Like CM, this area was a rock fest, but lots of fun.
    Check your PM.
