I have no idea about the trojan thing-a-ma-bob.

For backing up, use the BackupManager in Locus. Make a FULL backup, not just settings. It will create a zip file in your /sdcard/locus/backup directory, and you can copy that file to anywhere, on a pc, another phone, the cloud, etc

Before you wipe the phone, RESTORE that backup, and make sure it works ;-)

Then you can root/wipe/smash the phone as you like, and restore that zip file to whichever device you like. Of course you'll need to copy your MAPS and BROUTER data to a safe place if you don't want to download it all over again.

Sorry man, I stopped doing trojan/virus scans more than a decade ago when we changed over to unix-ish computers. I know it still happens, but ... ;-)

Thanks for the heads up @Cyclepath
Just ran Kaspersky on my S10 pro that I bought last month from Gearbest (the pro comes with android 7.0) and it found no malware.

I'm afraid I can't help you with rooting your phone, but I do want to thank you for warning us!

No problem DGR. Just make sure you do a complete scan not just the quick scan that Kaspersky does on it's own. or even do a custom scan. Go to custom scan, folder scan, DEVICE STORAGE, system. That is where it resides.

Oh poop.... I thought you might be able to help me. :-) hahaha

ohgood, I have been making backups like that for awhile now but haven't done one in the month or so. So I will do another one and I have folders in google drive for my maps and tracks and such as well. I am not sure how to copy my brouter to the google drive. Is there anything special I need to do. I have all the sections for the United states loaded in brouter.

Ok, I made another complete back up Locus and up loaded it to google drive. I am going to export all of my points and tracks to separate folders on google drive so should they be exported as kmz or gps files ? And do they have to moved one set of tracks at a time or can I export the whole tracks folder or points folder all at once. I know how to export each folder listed under tracks one at a time but can't seem to find a way to export them all at once. And if I export one track folder at a time then only the tracks show up and not the folder they are in. When I did this with the points the whole folder went along with the points keeping everything where it belongs.

the backup manager already did this for you, if you selected "everything". tracks, waypoints, settings, all went in there.

Ok, thanks for that info ohgood. Did it also back up all my maps like the vector maps and lo maps and the topo's ? And what about the themes ? Also what about brouter ? Sorry for so many questions :(:

You mentioned a unix--like system awhile back. I have a small net book with Linux on it that I fool around with from time to time. And I must say I don't like it very much. I am not familiar with unix ?? So much I don't know........
What are you using for a gps cell phone?

no your maps, themes and brouter directories are separate from the locus settings and track databases. you can drag/drop those (they are much larger in size) to a computer or use Wi-Fi direct to make copying them a faster process.

Unix based - Mac os , it's not that I'm all googaaa fan boy of apple products, I just got sick of the constant popup crap notifying me of things that really really didn't matter on windows machines. I really don't need to be notified every time windows drivers screw up the network connection, and think the cable is unplugged ;-)

Follow up on the Triada Trojan I have on my Nomu phone.

I have several emails to Kaspersky labs regarding this Trojan. Here is there latest report to me. It is in red below.
I will never buy anything from Gearbest again, grrrrrrrrrr ! It would appear according to Kaspersky that Nomu installs maleware on there phones.

Ohgood, If you are reading this do you know if Locus will run on a flashed cell phone with a different firmware installed ? I know nothing about this or how to do it.
I guess I could go to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and see if they can do it but it would prolly cost me more then what I paid for this phone. All you Nomu users please check your phone with Kaspersky.

here is the virus warning I get from Kaspersky on my cell phone.....

    THREAT DETECTED
    HEUR:Trojan.AndroidOS.Triada.dl

    libandroid_runtime.so
    /system/lib

    Hello ,

Thank you for contacting Kaspersky Lab Technical Support.

Our experts reviewed the case and they informed to please backup all needed data and perform factory reset. If this will not help - only flashing new firmware could help. There is pre-installed malware on the Nomu devices.

    Have a great day.

Do you have root access to the phone? If not, you may not be able to delete the offending file(s) but with root privileges you should be able to do so. Apologies if you are already aware of/beyond this.

No apologies needed my friend. I can use all the help I can get. hehehe I do not have root access. I think Chris of this forum said he tried to root his Nomu but was unsuccessful. So any help would be appreciated.

Locus runs on my Sony Z3TC with original Sony-ROM 6.0 and Lineage OS 7.1. If you have installed the minimum android version Locus requires, there should be no problem with a different firmware.

locus will run on any android version from 2.3 onward.... but the older versions will only work with older versions of locus, they kind of go hand in hand.

as far as flashing stuff at geek squad, I would bet you're more likely to have five over hundred dollar bills come flying into your window is you throw four of them out... before GS could get it working.

just root your phone and delete the malware. then you can unroot if you prefer and carry on.

    Well, another Trojan has appeared.
This one is called.... "Boogr.gsh" Kaspersky can delete this one but it has come back 3 time now.
Here is what it is called and where it resides.

    HEUR:Trojan.Android.Boogr.gsh

    Settings
    base.apk
    /data/app/com.comona.bac-1

Could it be that the Triada Trojan is responsible for installing the other Trojan?
I read thru the rooting stuff that Nesbocaj provided but this is over my head. Reminds of my foray into Linux which I didn't do to good with either.
Any help would be welcomed :-)

I sent a letter to Kaspersky telling them there help was no help at all. So I doubt that I will hear from them again.

David, I've been following this closely and curious to see what you find! Let me know if I can help you out with mine. I pretty much only use it for GPS, but I'll be sure to remove email accounts and possibly other accounts off the phone. The military has known about this kind of stuff for years and its why we have to leave our cell phones outside a classified briefing.

Hi baroquenride....I seem to have forgotten your name, duhhhh. Any way I know what ya mean. My brother works in the Pentagon and he can't take his cell phone in there with him either. I have everything backed up as far as Locus goes in three different places. I don't have anything on the phone of importance. I used to have it syncd to my Asus phone and my google account but not anymore. I will soon be deleting all my contacts and emails and the google account on the Nomu as well. This phone does not have a sim card as you know. The only time it gets on line is if I want to download an app or something and that's thru my hotspot on my Asus. There is a link a few posts up on how to root the Nomu but it is a little over my head. I might be able to do it but then I prolly would end up bricking my phone. hahahaha Did you check your phone ? seems that some Nomus don't have the Trojan from what I have been able to find out.
Thanks for the interest baroquenride and any help you could provide would be welcome. :-)

yesterday (1-1-2018) we rode single track all day. the high for the day was 22F, and the low when we started was 14F with windchill somewhere around 5F. the duraforce (not xd, not pro) never missed a beat. plenty of ice was roosted, a few pine trees, no big deal. i like rugged phones. :)
DRONE, Nesbocaj and EmmEff like this.
