Well ladies and gents,
I pulled the trigger, I'm in for my first S500!
Nice! More locals! (to me)
Is the route for this event published anyplace so I can take a look at it?
all registered and looking forward to another great ride.
I've lost track of how many SH500's I've done, but none of them were a bad one. Even have a couple of friends coming this year for their first one.
No, they ask everybody not to post it online.
Parts of the route is on private land and they do not want people riding the route any other time so they do not loose the right to ride there.
Yep, just follow the roll chart they provide and pay attention to the flags. They also give you a very basic route map that will get you back to camp if you have to bail. But I have learned the hard way the point where you need to bail doesn't always cooperate and I hate waiting for sweep riders/trucks.
So I started carrying is a forest service road and topo map just in case. That thing served me well for the Hypothermia Rain Ride bailout, the Frog Strangler Ride bailout, the WTF Are We Ride, the blown motor ride, the shredded rear sprocket ride and the rock of doom busted up friend ride.
In other words, I have my share DNF's and like to know where I am. You won't need it for the event but carrying or downloading a map isn't a bad idea for bailouts, disasters and what have you. But, like T6 said, don't publish route. They don't need people riding the route outside of the event.
Also, for anybody who doesn't carry stuff to fix your own flats, bring money to help out the trail marshals and other riders who end up bailing your dumb ass out. I had four flats in one day once. So I have had to buy tubes off trail marshals despite being well prepared for flats.
The official S500 rock worship prayer position:
I'm in and confirmed.Had to rent an RV spot for my tent as there were no other tenting sites left.
This will be my first ride down there, and hopefully many more to come.I know of a few PA. riders I just rode with on the BEB 7 Mtn's ride are going down, just wondering if any more PA. riders will be attending.
I'll be there.
Sent an email to the people in charge, but never got a response. Please get back to me. Thanks.
Bunch of us from the Hampton Roads area are in. Have campsite C-9 locked down. Gonna haul my 7X12 bike trailer up so I can bring both KTM's, been told it never hurts to have a back up bike..., and probably just sleep in it. Stop by and have a cold one. Will be up there Friday afternoon.
Im not sure they watch this thread and their trail boss is slow to pickup his emails
if we can help answer anything please ask
its a local event for us
