I recently asked if anybody knew of a shipping company which can ship our bikes from Lima or Cusco to Miami. People replied by saying that it's sea freight only from there. How about La Paz?? Air freight from there? Does anybody know? Any information on prices? I know there is a link on the hubb with shipping information, but most of it is outdated. Does anybody know of a more up to date database for this stuff? If anybody shipped a bike(s) from central South Am to the USA recently, can you tell me from where to where, how much, and what company??
Also: how much is the visa for US citizens (and bike import) for Bolivia and where do we apply for it??
If shipping costs are astronomical, how does one go about selling a bike down here? Any insight?
    Thank you!

since you are down there, why not look up local cargo co. numbers and call? air shipping is not going to be cheap.

search is a very handy tool.:evil

You can sell your bike only to another non-resident of South America....I'm here now and just bought another vehicle and sold mine, so it's doable. What bike is it? Another option is to dismantle it and ship it in 2-3 crates.

I air shipped a bike from Bogota to Miami last February for $800. The amount varies widely by location and date. At the time, Miami was the most economical. I used Lyn Cargo and dealt with Veronica in their Bogota office. She was amazing and I can't recommend her highly enough. She speaks good English and I'd start with her.

I think I paid $155 for my (extortion) visa. The US charges Bolivians a fee so I understand but I still don't like it. Bolivia was an awesome country and may have been favorite as far as scenery/locations.

Check on the section Latin America shipping thread. SamericaXplorer can help you out of Lima, not Cusco. Forget about Bolivia for shipping.

You could sell the bike in Bolivia and Peru if the bike is less than 5 years old. However, you must close your temporary admission permit and that goes with the selling, but you must close it.]\
It could take time (days) and sometimes you don't have time for being in one place for so long. Anything else on selling it is under the table but.....

Hi, and thanks for your input. It's a 2007 BMW F650. Selling seems complicated. If I had the money I'd ride it back to the US, but that's out the question. :-(
