I am looking for a place to target shoot in Illinois with in 100 miles of Chicago. Outdoor preferably. Missouri has conservation ranges that are great and free. Something like that would be great. Anybody know of one?

Darnell's down near Bloomington has a nice facility. Privately owned but open to public use. Or consider joining the club in waterman. They have a 600 yard range there.

Well within 100 miles and in Wisconsin..
Public range that I think is operated by the Wisconsin DNR?? I shot there years ago.. Nice setup.

I'm a member of Beloit Rifle Club.. Tons of variations from indoor pistol/.22 rimfire to 500 meter rifle.. Shoots are open to the public, but it's a private club.. Membership only happens in Feb and it's a pain for anyone who's not somewhat local to join, but not impossible.

Indiana has two modern outdoor Ranges about 1 1/2 hrs from Chicago's southside.
    Google "Willow Slough" and "Kingsbury".
Very nice, and not crowded at all during the week.
Ottawa has Buffalo Pit....limited days they're open.
There are still many closer ranges but membership is required.
Indoor ranges.....heck I have six maybe 7 all within 30-40 minutes from my house, south of Chicago.
    Closest to me....8 minutes! :-)

Thanks for all the replies. My daughter lives in Chicago and is thinking about getting her concealed carry license. I told her I had a pistol I could give her but I also wanted to show her the different types. She hasn't really done any shooting since she was a little girl and she is 36 now. We always go up there to visit at Christmas.

Has she looked into the class? It's 16 hours and requires range time. The good thing is that she can use any handgun for the range part, and many just use a .22 for it.
