Hi just picked up this 1970 been sitting since September 1971 - had just 1830 miles on it sat in a shed in South Central LA, took a bit of work to put it back on the road, but now it runs great, no cleaning as found, although it now has an S&S, i tried and tried with the Tilotsen but could not get it to right good all the way through the range,

I know this is the Shovelhead thread, but that XLH Ironhead 3 bikes back in this photo is beautiful. Do you have any more photos of that bike?

    Funny you say that.
It was a 70's Ironhead that the owner tried to make look like a 1957.
I didn't think he pulled it off at all. The exhaust was a real kluge.
I like Ironheads, but that one didn't work for me. I couldn't find any more pics of it.

I cant see the exhaust in the pic, just that the rear pipe has an unusual bend.

I noticed the -57 themed paint job... but its on a 1970's superglide tank. I guess he couldn't find one of the more rare 'turtle' tanks used on the early Sportsters.

Looks like it has one of those aftermarket "vintage" 2 into 1 pipes. Most of them I've seen hang down too low in the rear, especially on a lowered bike.

Yeah, I don't think Sportsters ever came with white sidewall tires. Sometimes, people try too hard to make their bikes look old.

Yeah, mine will be 31 years old this year, but I didn't try to make it look like a '57 or whatever. It's customized a little to clean things up, but I think it holds true to what it really is. People who don't know Harleys think it's a new bike...

There are not very many XLX's left with stock exhaust with the cross over pipe!:deal

    That's a very nice example of a survivor!:thumb
