    This isn't the "Show us something practical you made" thread or the "Show us something you would want to ride cross-country" thread. It is a thread to share the fruits of our ingenuity, resourcefulness, talents and craftsmanship. No need to comment negatively on something that obviously took an obscene amount of man-hours and was pulled off beautifully. I'm sure practicality was as low on the list as most other artist's works of art. I'm not a fan of those types of bikes, but I sure can appreciate the effort involved.

    Oh I get that! That's why I said, "Art sometimes doesn't reflect reality!"

    And I didn't say I didn't like it for an art piece!
    Just commented on how hard it is to even fathom someone trying to ride it!

    I imagine the fuel tank is represented in the little flat thing under the backbone with the fuel tap in it. So it looks like it could be started.

    As an Advertising Piece to drum up business I think it's brilliant!

    I build stuff out of tubing too. My first bicycle when I was 14 looked like that bike. But that was back in 1965. My Dad thought I'd lost my mind.:lol3

    you did look at the photo of me next to the front wheel, take ten seconds and go and do the same...if you don't have the time then i'll tell you that i'm a 6'1" 235lb dwarf and that wheel is 34 1/4" tall to put the bike in persrective

    about 8000 man hours....

    it is a 93" knucklehead with the knuckles removed and open rockers and adjusters so you can see everything move when it runs, the motor is rotated backwards so the rear cylinder sits about 3 degrees off of vertical, it was done to throw people eyes off and question what the motor was...

    virtually every single piece of the bike was made from scratch or modified heavily, it WAS built as a work of art and NOT intended to ride, i was building about 100 bikes a year out of my shop for that....just thought i'd share as there is such a unique collection of riders on this forum some may want to see it....OK back to your normally scheduled program :lol3

    short version...sold it in 2007, got screwed on the sale, had a motorcycle accident right as the sale was going thru, the buyer decided to, not come thru with all the money and instead steal my identity, bikes, parts, money etc, etc, after all the legal BS it cost me about a million, and i was left with no business, no wife, no house, no money...i had a stroke and went blind for a short while from stress because of it, when i got my sight back i decided to go for a ride and meet other types of riders, click on my ride report below, its all explained in there...like i say this is the short version

    The bike is absolutely, unbelievably amazing! The creative mind and skills you have are OUTSTANDING!

    I could go on and on about the details of the bike, but instead just one thing that I'd love to know how you came up with it.

    The spokes on the wheels!

    Did you make those turnbuckles yourself, or are there a few dozen sailboats with mysterious rigging issues? Beautiful, and totally outside the box!

    Okay, so another question. The front brake rotor, FANTASTIC, attached to the rim instead of the hub! Did the brake caliper come from a mountain bike?

    My guess is you made all these parts yourself, but could you tell us how the creative process evolved from concept to finished wheels and brake system, please?

    Would really truly love to hear, details too!

    As an aside, my heart goes out to you about the poor business deal, loss of wife, home, and especially the health issues.

    Sounds like you're on the rise again, though, yes?

    Balsa wood. Bought "Raingutter Regatta" kits from Boy Scouts of America, came with everything, not a bad price either. Really easy to shape the hull- pretty simple to assemble. Hardest part so far has been the painting. We'll see how well they do next week.

    just the wheels and front brake have about 3-4 weeks work in them alone, with about 8 people involved in one way or another

    the wheels consist of 665 individually machined pieces, one half of the spoke has a standard thread and the other half has a reverse thread, this was done so the wheel could be trued once it was complete using the brass center insert, my version of a standard spoke with a little uniqueness thrown in

    the brake rotor is stainless steel and was cut on a waterjet and then blanchard ground for true flatness, the caliper is from a company called JayBrake who were one of my suppliers for my production bikes and they asked if i would use their small two piston unit

    the brake is activated by the reversed lever on the bar, which then pulls a stainless cable internally over a pulley and then activates a lever which in turn presses down on the master cylinder to create pressure which is then fed through the brake line...the master cylinder was modified from a go kart and machined to fit inside the leg of the fork, there is also an internal throttle in the right grip too...see below

    to do all of this, it took 3 different Haas CNC machines, a manual lathe, waterjet, english wheel, planishing hammers, hammers and dollies, 3 ring tubing rollers, slip rolls, shears, brakes...Stainless, brass and aluminum welding, solid works design programming, lots of people saying "what if"? and then me saying well that would maybe work but now it creates other issues/ problems/ designs...so basically one piece controlled the design for the next piece and then the next and so on and so on...



    the rest (life is just details) is just life, it happens to different people in different ways, to me it all happened in about one month...kind of difficult at the time but "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger"

    i have this bike up for sale to fund my ongoing travels, sadly no takers. It would be great if someone could have it on display and appreciate it on a daily basis, right now it sits in storage, its a shame

    not only would someone get the bike but a few gigs of electronic design files go along with it, just incase someone wanted to make a duplicate...yeah right :lol3
