We need to plan a ride when I get home.
Dark = tallgrass--- Med = mixed and light = short grass
The Kiowa Nat'l Grasslands, eastern NM
near the Kansas Colorado border
Not really the Great Plains, but it LOOKS like it...!
While riding across South Dakota.
I imagine it has been discussed at length here, but I picked up "Empire of the Summer Moon" yesterday for the flight from LA to OKC. What a fantastic book and compelling read. I am already mapping out some great backroad exploring in SW Kansas, Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle searching out several of the sites named. I grew up South of Dodge City along the Cimarron River, so much of this territory is familiar, but this book brought it to life once again. If you have an interest in the southern Great Plains, check this book out if you have not as of yet.
lol i was born and raised in hugoton ks just 34 miles west of liberal ks there are some pretty cool places to see
Yep, a great book.
Planning a trip to South Dakota led me to this thread; fantastic photography, at least on the first 50 pages, which is as far as I've gotten so far. Thanks for all the efforts, everyone. If it hasn't been mentioned, PBS has two episodes of Michael Forsberg's Great Plains documentaries available for streaming. Planning to watch them today, once we get the festivities under control.
I'm not sure if I posted this updated pic:
Where is that? Looks like the place where Ford LTD's go to die.
Just west of Clark, South Dakota on Highway 212.
