Absolutely fantastic!!!, just dropped into this great thread for the first in about 6 months and watched all the recently uploaded youtube vids, thank you very much Walter, excellent viewing. Iv'e got the 2009 dvd and got the book a few years ago which were very good in their own right but these vids take this already great thread to an even higher level.

Thanks again, cant wait for more!!!.

Episode 11 is up: The team continue across Kazakhstan and venture into particularly remote areas, with Rod's KTM continuing to cause problems.

Got love all the good folks around the world. Seems as you were met with smiles and well wishes, other than the coppers in the big cities.

Brilliant Walter, think I would be very scared of the water crossings. Are the mosquito's as bad as the midges in Scotland.

Walter, great video, episode 11! All of them, really. Wow, a Snickers bar in the middle of Kazakhstan? Saw a couple of pictures from you on Google Earth that were just past the farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. Great pictures that show the remoteness of your travels.
Thanks for all the work posting these!

Re-reading this whole report for about the 4th time. Sad is that Rod's photos are no longer available. But, enjoy re-reading it anyway.

Mars, the manufacturer of Snickers, is a worldwide company: http://www.mars.com/global/about-us/locations

I never cared for Snickers until I spent several weeks in Eastern Europe. For me, Snickers bar was a taste of home.

thanks! google maps wasn't even bringing up any results for "Anyuisk, Russia" so it took me a dang while to find. it's about 20km due southeast of Nizhnekolymsk. there is a road heading east on the satellite view. trying to get directions from there to Anadyr? google says "dude, take an airplane".

    Walter, take a motorcycle.

The big smoke in that part of the world is Chersky ... about 50 KM NNW of Anyuisk / Anyuysk. But apparently Anyuisk is where the barge from Seymchan unloads

From there, you head east ....

    Hi guys.
As a Scot I can confirm that evil as the Scottish Sabre Toothed Midge is, the Kazakh and Russian varieties have honed their savagery to new levels. I have heard rumour of a mossy school somewhere on the steppe where the older ones teach the newbies the most effective grips to hold one in whilst they stab you.
Then again, the last time I went to the West Coast of Scotland, me and my brother set off one evening to a spot I know we might see some otters. As we walked along the shore, a posse of these wee fuckers found us and whistled their mates in. They started biting..." ouch, never mind..we can do this" ..........ouch!.. ouch!!! For fuck's sake OWWWWCCHy OOOWWCHY!! AAAGH!!
We tuned tail and ran pell-mell to the cottage flailing our ams like religious penitents.
If the midges were not bad enough on the West Coast, there was a midgy repellant for sale called SHOO! it worked great but if you get any of this stuff on your eyelids it was like a feckin acid attack . AAAAGH!! What's in that stuff??

In essence I dunno....but the Russian/Kazakh mossies are not tyo be underestimated. The Siberian mossies are bigger and REALLY mean business. I think terry and Walter may want to comment on that

In time for the weekend ... Episode 12. The Sibirsky team heads into the original Soviet nuclear test site "Experimental Field", better known as "The Polygon" (and sometimes incorrectly referred to as Semipalatinsk), in north eastern Kazakhstan. Along the way they encounter wolves, cattle eaten by wolves and have a run in with several brutal bottles of Kazakh vodka. (literally the roughest vodka I ever had the misfortune of drinking)

This one is another video that is proving a bit troublesome in terms of devices youtube is allowing it to play on. It will play on computer and definitely on youtube.com ... but there may be issues on tablets or phone.
