Can't miss a Colebatch ride report.
For sure i´m in too
Season end is near, but another Colebatch report is on the way, that´s great...
First name on the riders team sheet was, obviously enough, me. I had no idea if anyone else would be stupid enough and have time enough to attempt a ride like this with me, so when I came up with the plan, I was prepared to do it alone ... or at least large stretches of it alone.
The bike I was riding was the rebuilt X-Challenge that featured in last years Morocco ride report - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=727119
The modifications are numerous and detailed on the bike build thread here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=524638, but for purposes of being brief ...
The big ticket highlights are:
- Hyperpro Shock
- Marzocchi twin chamber 50mm forks, resprung and revalved
- Hot Rod X-Tank (9.5litres)
- Hot Rod X-Rack
- Hot Rod KTM 690 Rallye fairing assembly
- Excel Rims (A60 up front)
- Scheffelmeier bash plate
- Rayz seat
- HID50 projector lights, ballasts and bulbs
- SR Racing exhaust
- Assorted hard parts from Scheffelmeier, Hot Rod and Adventure-Spec
- Terry Browns prototype X-Challenge oil cooler
I used the Giant Loop Fandango tank bag, a 49 litre (not the big one) Ortlieb roll bag on the back, but the main panniers were a product (Magadan Bags) that I had been developing over the last year or so since nothing else did the job, now produced and distributed by Adventure-Spec.
When the bike emerged from the workshops of Hyperpro and Hot-Rod just 10 days before departure, it looked like this:
In adventuring mode, on the road, it looks like this:
Здравствуй Walter, I sense some brutal Siberian mud-madness!
Trust you won't be dissapointing?
Oh and please do a side-story post in your usual style, about going from google earth to real earth...
PS. you are v.close to convience me to build my future perfect bike on an x-challenge...
just hope they will still be alive in a couple of years after all such trashings!!!

I was just thinking to myself, "I'm ready for another Colebatch adventure.." I open up Ride Reports, and THERE IT IS!
Thanks Walter. You really do a service for those of us not able to do these rides!
This is too early. I'm still riding for at least another 3 weeks. At least have the common decency to wait until I'm snowbound and need a good read.
great ride... subscribed
I was waiting for this moment, Walter!
Now I understand your earlier reply "Something ambitious" to my remark: "I'm missing your epic rides, are you preparing for something soon?"
Sapsibo, anxiously awaiting your posts.
Another epic Colebatch ride report!!! I'm totally IN for this one. Actually caught it at the start for the first time. I thought I recognized at least one face from previous rides.
No way could I do that but I'm happy to read about those that can.
wow... nice trip!!
Wow. I love these motorcycling ride reports written by Walter.
