Just passed through the scenic bypass (10, 7) and into Oakhurst on Sunday. Must have been some other adventure junkies. Made it through Yosemite today. What an epic place![IMG][IMG]

I tried the section from Tahoe to Lee Vining on Saturday. Sadly I found that a couple key sections of the SMTP now have "No Motorized Vehicles" signs. On the attched track, you can se all the sections where I got turned around. The last 1/3 or so to Lee Vining I just went on pavement... will go back to find a dirt way through that. Will also look for a new way to link the Pinenuts into Walker that is more direct.

I used my old iPhone 4 with MotionX-GPS app and loaded the Sierra Loop 2014 Complete gpx file on to it for navigation. It was a modified version of Countdown's PCQ / SMTS tracks (not my own). I used http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ to make the modifications which basically routed us through the National Parks instead of around. We were on loaded KLRs so I tried to stay on paved or dirt roads. The time frame for seeing everything did not allow any trail riding this go around though there are numerous places I want to go back and explore. I don't have my gps tracks for the actual route because I lost signal several times and it became very frustrating trying to track my route. I will go back and look at what I have and upload that later if it looks like anything useful. Attached is the file I referenced and used. Happy exploring, next I'm on to Moab/Utah!

What about GPS tracks, this is GPS thread? Sounds a lot like the PCQ or at least near it.

Thanks ! you seemed to not do a direct route to the park around here almost sight seeing. I may take it on myself to record some tracks from the Kings river to Bass lake-Oakhurst-Wawona. I also know of at least two or three dirt ways into Yosemite that may be included.

I would appreciate any updates for my SMTS in your area. I intended to get there this year and ride with my old friend who retired to South Fork but he was all tied up with prostate treatment.

The route we took was all about sight seeing! Looking at the PCQ and SMTS routes on google earth I was able to look at photos along those routes others had posted in googles database so I had some sense of the sights and it was even better than I had hoped. I'm sure there are other routes too as you mention where we would have enjoyed additional scenery, we were very pleased for exploring for the first time not knowing exactly what to expect. An adventure never disappoints! There seemed to be a number of dirt roads/trails north of Bass Lake when we came out of the scenic byway loop. We saw lots of dirt bikes, ATVs and UTVs. Really a neat place for offroad enthusiasts. Bass lake is nice too. Would be interested in your other routes in case we do a reunion trip with others in my family! Happy Exploring!

The view along this route was amazing....just a taste as pictures never do it justice. Believe this was somewhere along forest route 23s16 on our way up to camp nelson.

That area just had a big fire. Its Mammoth pool and that view is twice a good from the shuteye lookout just above there.

So I think I have a nice route mapped out around the Sierra. The one thing I am still trying to figure out is a semi direct route from McCarran that would then either go through or around Spanish Springs to meet up with the numerous options west of Spanish springs (without going to far north or east to accomplish this). The area I am trying to get through is highlighted by the red circle in the image below.

Or maybe a cool way to get from Carson city to Verdi on almost all dirt staying west of Reno?

Also, anyone want to weigh in on what the "top" North-most point of the Sierra Nevada should be? Just north of Portola or is that not far north enough?
