For the couple hours earlier today that the servers were up, it was pretty awesome. :clap

HAHA! I tried playing earlier, and could never get the game to start, so I watched White Collar and did stuff for work instead. I am probably going to try again in a bit.

Someone should make an ADVRider region...

If the servers are ever up...

I have half a mind to get up really early tomorrow, but I'm frustrated enough not to give a shit anymore. :lol3

    Notes from the first day:

It may seem cute to build on both sides of the regional rail line, but most streets can't cross it.

The 'high density' roads allow bigger buildings but generate an amazing amount of sewage.

The servers will punt your ass and lose all your shit. It is a crapshoot whether you get back to your game, get stuck in a tutorial loop of death, or when trying to start again, error out.

I haven't even been able to play enough to get to high density stuff. The couple of times I have been able to play my cities were not saved, the rest of the time I haven't been able to log on. Maybe Doom was this bad when it came out a few years back with its DRM, but this is by far the worst I have experienced...

The part I can't comprehend is that of all the games in the world, Sim City benefits the least from multiplayer mode.

Yeah, It'd be sorta fun to start a region with some friends at a later date. But not having an offline mode is fucking asinine, particularly with such a huge launch.

I wanted to buy it, but I've been holding off to see how the whole server thing goes. It seems that it might pay to hold off a bit?

    Total cluster.

They'll probably get it halfway organized in time for heavy use this weekend to crash it all again.

I have plans all weekend, so I'll probably give it a shot sometime around next Tuesday. :lol3

Well I'm getting ready to spend a year or so away from the wife, so I need something that takes up a lot of my time to keep me out of trouble. :lol3. I'll wait a week or two to see how things pan out.

Personally, I feel like the issues will be worked out in the next week or so, and then all will be well. The game itself should be a huge time-sink, which is good and bad :deal

Like grainbelt, I have plans this weekend, but not all weekend so I will try to play. If I am not able... Oh well, it'll work next week.

Got in for a couple hours, built a half decent city to support the region, next week I'll try to figure out the region.

So can you do your own thing or are you forced to deal with other strangers?

This is the first I've heard of it- I'm not into gaming at all, but I used to play Sim City YEARS ago- probably the only game I really got into.

You can build your own city. You can also play with others. Completely up to you. However, you MUST ALWAYS be connected to the internet to play. Saved cities, even single player, are stored on whatever server you are connected to. Play on a different server tomorrow and you will not be able to play your game.

So far I have only been able to play for about 1 hour back on Tuesday. I have not been able to play since. Not happy with EA right now.

I just read that Amazon has stopped selling the game because of the DRM issues.

I just checked, and the download version is available. However, there is a large warning basically saying the game doesn't work, and as of right now there are 1,052 reviews, and only 24 are 5 star, 14 are 4 stars, 17 are 3 stars, 55 are 2 stars. The other 942 are 1 star reviews.

People are very upset with EA over this, rightfully so.

I'm gonna wait on you all to give the green light. If they get their shit together it'll be the first video game I buy in 20 years.

I was able to get on and play last night, although the entire time I kept getting a pop-up saying the SimCity Server is unavailable at this time. Then another popup saying I was connected. I have no idea if the city I started got saved. I guess I will have to wait until tonight to see. I think Europe goes live today... I hope the server issues are in better shape over there, or else the entire network will crash, again.

Cities no longer have their own map - instead there are city 'sites' on a region map. You can play all the sites yourself, invite friends to your region, out make it public. So we could create youfuckingfuckistan on a large region map and each create a city to share resources, labor, and trade between.

    Or not. :lol3

Can we merge World of Tanks with SimCity and create new battlefields or roll in and blow other folks' towns up? :lol3
