New meaning to the term "water bed".
I had my own SLAP ride a few days before the official one-------nice and dry
Turns out the OZAT (Ozark Adventure Trail)-----------a 2,000 mile ride thru Missouri and Arkansas passes right thru Oark and Byrds. I was just finishing up the OZAT and timing had me missing the official date.
Sounds like you all had a great time tho !!!!
I missed all the rain--------but did fill my boots full of water on creek crossings more than once.
Check out these bikes I met in Oark.
I tried to trade my Africa twin even up for one of them-------there were 3---but they were having none of that.
Thanks for bringing out the firewood again!!!
I have to second the BIG THANKS to all who put on the SLAP and the people at Byrde’s for taking such great care of us despite the adverse conditions. we had a blast as usual.
Well, that was interesting. Five inches of rain when they predicted a half inch, early morning bug out, power out all day Saturday, mass exodus. Still I have to say, I had one hell of a good time. I hope you guys did too. SLAP is a labor of love, a gathering of like minded souls, a communal attempt at a low-key good time, a chance to ride as much or as little as you like, a place to catch up on old friendships and make new ones. I've been to five now, with two ending in a camp-clearing deluge. So it goes.
The Byrd's staff kicked ass. Being awakened at 3:30 (or whatever the hell time it was) by someone with a flashlight in your face is never fun, But far better than floating down the river. They've done this dance a few times, and I'm grateful they are good at it. And let's not forget they put dinner on the table Saturday night, on time, without power.
Camp Run-A-Mucka thanks you for coming. I thank you for coming. It was our first year staging this thing and we've learned some things in the process. Next year we'll be better at this. No weather guarantees, though.
Photo thread going up soon. I didn't take a single one.
See you at SLAP 2018.
thanks guys, this was only my second one , first being in 2004 at DawtMill (where someone got screwed over by the management at the end). I didn't take very many pics, I'm trying to upload a vid going back into the camp ground after the one hour wait. I rode 201mile getting there Friday, only 143 on Saturday, and did 238 getting back today, which included a ride on the Peel ferry (again). But I really wasn't there to ride much, I was just so damn glad to be out of the house with like minded people.
great ride, no dust, thanks for putting it together, left early sat, be back next year
What a great time!
What a great time on our way to Oark for a much needed lunch.
Gotta love the Ozarks!!!!
Beautiful road is awesome. So much so that I did not take photos. Just forgot. Here we are on the Big Piney River Hwy 123 bridge.
Then we followed Ozark Craig down to Woods road. He is involved in a wedding next weekend here and wanted to check it out. Then Woops Road. "Are you kidding? Of course I have no photos. Too busy dealing with all the endorphins." Then Pilot Knob.
Storm coming. Gotta ride back west through it! Turned out to be sprinkles!
What a Friday!

Weeellllll-This was my first SLAP and hopefully NOT my last. Definitely one I will not soon forget. I must have left my manners at home because I met and talked to a lot of people without introducing myself and I apologize. I have been to Byrds many times in the past and this was the first time I had to evacuate. The Byrds staff did right by me as far as warning us to move higher. Chalk it up to being part of the adventure-right?
And a big thank you for putting on this great event. I am warning you now-I will be back! Newner- good to see you again! It's funny that we met again at the Oark Cafe.

Due to a little rain, Some of the creek crossings were a little tougher than others!

This thread will be moved, so post all your heroic pics and tales of the great flood here:
One final bit of business here: If you ordered (and paid for) a SLAP T-shirt and were not in attendance to pick it up, AND you still want it, we'll mail it to you for the cost of shipping. PM convo me for details.
someone was flying a drone Saturday morning, he said he would put a vid link on here.....
