    Hello all,

Almost new to me will be a 1967 r50/2 with 52k miles condition good with some scrapes, no rust but runs with low compression between 65-72 psi per cylinder. Previous owner (77yrs. old) doesn't remember if slingers were done so that's on the list to do.
Question, can this bike run with low compression like this without tearing into it right away? I'm wanting to ride it a few miles (maybe 100 miles) to see how it rides before overhauling the engine.
Does $5k sound like a good price for this Beemer? I know that since I don't posses special tools and the time I will be ready to shell out rebuild costs for the engine.
    Thanks!

Photos would be the only way to tell you it's $5K worth or not

I've posted a picture on the BMWMOA site in the Vintage section under "post a picture" and should be on the last page under weeman.

MOA isn't really helpful for /2's.
This site will keep you more entertained.
If it's not too beat up, 5k is the upper limit for initial purchase.
At 52K it must be rebuilt, but you could/should ride a few miles to set the hook....:evil

Thanks for the reply. The r50 has a few scratches here and there but paintwork is descent for the year with no corrosion on the brightwork (chrome). The only dent is on the very front of the fender as I was the noob that did it by carrying a handful of tools when one got away.

So, I guess with that response 5k isn't that bad even if the engine needs going through. Right now it starts with one or two kicks and the right cylinder has the lowest compression but runs okay. If you've read the above posts I'm sure you'll agree on the rebuild as I do. Having said that, I'm going to sort it out and just ride it after the rebuild.
By the way, the Alfas aren't mine. Thanks for the comments!

Have you been watching ebay for prices? POS rust bucket /2s are going for 4.5k This is a good deal if that is the bike. That bike is a day of white diamond, steel wool, and wax away from being a really nice rider.

    If I didn't have 3 /2s and a /3 i would be trying to get it if you didn't.

note taking compression on airheads requires taking off carb or raising carb slide to up position. better to remove carb. your compression reading will be low if carb is not removed.

that /2 has ADV sticker on it... who did it belong to?

The ADV sticker is my bike. Just for comparison. I'd not heard that compression should be measured with the carbs off. What's up with that?
