Skied amazing corn all weekend off the summit. NWE is unrideable off the groom in places and didn't really soften up as there is a breeze up there and the high clouds also helped keep things cool. It looks like the last day of the season on NWE there is so little snow. Mullen weeds sticking up but the corn is ripping fast and my skis were never sticking.

    Hauling ass! (sorta)

Our backside crew - SuperVW, Opal (first time on this side of the mountain and she shredded it, even though she was hesitant about sharing it with a snowboarder :lol3) Myself, Wookie.

Crazy winter but we feel lucky to have a base and enough snow to keep the legs going until weather returns.

CRAZY warm at Meadows over the weekend. I went up Friday night and stayed in the camper until Sunday afternoon. I think the coldest it got was about 40 degrees at night...It felt like May up there....
I could not bring myself to buy a ticket for those conditions, but it was nice to be up at the mountain.

It was 58 degrees on Donner Summit on Saturday..:cry

It's pretty bad when you ride in Tahoe and want to plan a pow trip to the East Coast...

Friday, my feet were freezing in the studio and that fog was depressing so I went up to the hill to warm up above the moist blanket of cold humidity.

Ahhhh much better up here (weather-wise). Everything is open and running but off the groom is treacherous, loud and not fun.

Went up again yesterday for more of the same but took an old pair of Volkl P40 GS skis that still ROCK!

Crappy photo but that's Mt Adams on the right - GIFFORD!

Met this guy last year. He's competed in ARCTIC MAN a couple times, totally grew up on Bachelor and seriously hauls ass. He broke his femur in the fall and is carefully coming back skiing with his kids.

    At least we have snow.

Well that was fun for about six runs. 8" of classic Cascades sea foam that covered up all the blue ice and stuck to everything real nice, (including the chair so you sat in it every ride). Hung out until my pants were so soaked that the weight was becoming a factor. It felt, skied and even smelled like a typical spring day at Mt Hood Ski Bowl. Damn weather - 2 degrees colder and we'd have ten feet of snow up there. :cry

Weird winter for sure. Skiing perfect spring corn is February is fun and everything but geez.

At least most of the ice is covered up and there's no reason to get up there early.

On the way home one day I stopped to take a leak in that grey room back there and saw these 2 ladies trying to open the hood of their rig with a hammer and a tire iron so stopped to see if they needed help. They did. :lol3

President's Day was SKIMOTO! Rode the lifts for a few hours then trucked down to a buddie's place south of Sunriver for some . . .

    . . . action!

Heard it's supposed turn back into winter in March and April.

Finally got to ride pow this weekend in Tahoe. Cold and dry. Has been too long for everyone.

Some people at Squaw had to wait longer than others....

This is the line yesterday for the Funitel. I heard they took the chairs off of KT22.

I could't agree more!! My friend sent me that picture. I wasn't going anywhere near Squallywood that day. Looks like I made the right call.

Good grief! I guess it is no surprise that this mob has never considered skins, climbing and skiing pristine snow...

Good, it will keep them out of the backcountry! :evil

But waiting in line and riding up lift does give them more time to text..:puke1

    Holy Shit!

Saturday saw 80 mph sustained winds that completely scoured the entire mountain and blew the 5-8" of nice new snow down to somewhere near Klamath Falls. Sunday was so stinkin' crowded it became dangerous to even ski the groomers - which is all you could ski since the wind destroyed the snow. Top it off with everyone in the PNW wanting to ski ANYTHING and NW Express is broken.

Top of Cow's face in the wind:

Looks like NW Express won't open again this year until sometime in April. If there's even snow left over there once they do get it repaired. Rough year.:puke1

With no snow in recent history and the melt/freeze history, the backcountry would not be a place I would even consider going. This was a cold storm. Avy danger is super high in the bc right now. Even if we get more snow, there is a sheer layer established now. I wonder how many people aren't paying attention to that kind of stuff. It could be deadly...

I was going to complain about the lines at bachelor on Saturday but then I saw the Picture above. Really sad about the NW express. I have only been over there once this year and it was rugged.

You are probably talking about the Sierras...out here in NE Oregon and W. Idaho the avy centers are rating the risk as "low"...different conditions, different snow...

Having said that, you can always get buried if you try hard enough..

Yeah looks about right. My son just spent 3 days in the Sisters climbing and skiing with zero avy' activity. Some other friends skied all 3 mountains in one day from north to south which is completely out my reach.

Bachelor is holding up pretty good if you have skis with edges and don't mind poking around to find the smooth lines. Following the sun around in search for corn is just another way to enjoy the sport this winter.

Funny to see all the people on rockered pow skis flapping around on the groom.
