If you look at the bottom of this post, you can see that my stable is a little crowded right now. I did not set out to own three new BMWs, but things just sorta happened that way. (long story)

Lately, I've spent all my solo time on the new Dakar. Having great fun stringing together long loops that go from gravel to tar to gravel, over and over. Finding lonely, hidden winding gravel lanes, mostly in hills near rivers, in both South Dakota and Iowa.

I'm also riding the Dakar around as my usual in-town ride. Short hops, errands, etc.

So last night I roll out the R1150R, wash it up, and take it out for a loop. Been awhile since it has been out. Wow. All of a sudden, I don't like that bike as much as I used to.

Compared to the Dakar, the 50R seems so uncomfortable. The suspension seems harsh, and the posture wears me down. The bike is harder to shift smoothly, and the engine braking seems extreme. And I miss my tank bag and cases for toting along assorted stuff. I also miss my GPS (which lives on top of the Dakar tank bag) and my trip computer.

The Dakar is simply less work to ride. It just ignores potholes and other surface junk, flicks through corners with no thought required, shifts perfectly (except for finding neutral while stopped) and is just plain more fun to be on.

So WHY do I have this 50R? Anybody looking for one?

Yeah, I'm looking for one. Unfortunately my wife and I are having a contest right now to see who can go the longest without buying another motorcycle. I'm winning......I've gone almost ten months. :) But I want an 1150R in the worst way.

Ten months! That's longer than I have ever been able to last. This 50R may end up on the IBMWR classifieds any day now. If you decide you want to talk about it, shoot me an e-mail. FYI: As of this morning, the bike has 1103 miles on it. The 600m has been done, and I added the speedster screen.

I think the new Roadster is cool in a chick-bike sort of way. Same tuning as a GS, but without the utility. Never quite understood that. They *are* purty to look at tho.

And jdiaz, I've gotcha beat...my newest bike is 13 months old :thumb
