and this is the view looking north along the coast... the way that I will be taking home to avoid the notorious mid-day traffic on the I-5...

I just sat on the steps for a while just taking in the scenery... its good to get out and just enjoy the day riding around...

We'll until next time inmates... there are more places to explore and report on...

    Cheers...

Lived in San Diego in the late 80s. This brings back some old memories. Some day I'll make it back for a visit. Apple pie in Julian is on my bucket list.

    It's a fantastic read Rudy.

The detail and pics that klav has put together is amazing. We all wish we'd had kept such documentation.

I'm about a 1/3 of the way through and it is amazing to see these same places (and bikes); it's like stepping back in time. Now I understand why @klaviator wants to make it back here to have a piece of Julian pie (ala mode).

The brunch at the Del is epic in every way. IIRC it was about $70 each 3 years ago.

However . . . I recommend go to Tom Hams Lighthouse on a Sunday for $50 each.

    http://www.tomhamslighthouse.com

Wifey and I stumbled in there a month ago just looking for a decent after-church breakfast and ended up sitting at the bar (best view of San Diego in San Diego) and eating endless amounts of Main lobster claws, crab legs, scallops etc etc and drinking bottomless champaign with the view of the city and Sunday football on the screens overhead. I think we killed about three hours and had the coolest day date in a long time. Sometimes it's worth taking an Uber home. This was one of them.

"We" probably just missed you on Soledad. There were about 20 of us doing a Saturday ride that started with Soledad after we left the BMW shop.
Would have been really cool to have crossed paths up there. Keep on riding and posting!

Yup, definitely been a long time since I've gone to the Del...

It would've been good to bump into you at Mt Soledad...

Awesome pictures and thread. I will definitely have to follow this.

I'll also keep an eye out for your Guzzi/Duc/KLR around Oceanside, as I live right down the street from you. You might spot my SV650 early mornings/evenings on the 76 or I-5 as I mostly just commute these days...

got a little Salton Sea action going on in the background there?
Really a good looking bike there Hunter.

I'm thinking of joining a few peops this Fri/Sat/Sun morning for a campout at Salton Sea and riding Joshua Tree.

All dressed up and nowhere to go and the Lilac Fire...

Welllll....... I was supposed to go moto camping this weekend to the Salton Sea with some local San Diego riders and fellow inmate (Zubb); however, that quite didn't work out so well when the Lilac Fires broke out at about 11:20 am on Thursday. I was going over last minute preparations for the trip when my iPhone started going crazy from the "emergency alert" notification from the Lilac Fires.

Saki all decked out and ready for a weekend camping trip to the Salton Sea...
    DSC00233.jpg

The Lilac Fires got as close as 16 miles from my neighborhood and I could see the plumes of smoke that filled the sky and they were awwwfulllly close!!
    Untitled.jpg

Here is some local coverage on the fires: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...pdates-san-diego-fire-20171207-htmlstory.html

I went out early this morning to survey SR-76 and the Bonsall area but the Oceanside Police had road blocks set-up on North River Road and SR-76 from Vandegrift Blvd and Oceanside Blvd respectively... the air quality was bad the closer I got to that area.

When it all calms down I'll try to make it out there to get some photos. Needless to say I would not recommend a day trip in that area anytime soon....
