    Folks:

I thought I'd start a Main Page for the SOF rides instead of creating a new thread for each separate ride, this way people will be alerted when a SOF ride is being organized - just make sure you have email notifications turned ON.

For those that don't know the SOF (Slow Old Farts) ride is aimed at the slower/older folks who enjoy a kinder/gentler ride in the Pine Barrens. I encourage bigger bikes and discourage 2-strokes, think of it like a PB100 except with no GPS - it's follow the leader. We don't have any organized routes but rather "follow our noses".

We ride about 5 hours and usually explore newer areas, so expect to get lost, expect to do some turn arounds, expect to ride in all conditions that the PB can throw at you. Getting wet and cold are also part of the experience.

We always meet at the same place at the same time (email me for details) on Sundays. I (or anyone) can post a date and limit the group to a manageable size. Bring food and water and make sure your gas tank is full as we don't pass any convenient stores along the route.

Our next ride is Sunday December 27th - see you there

    Hey SOF -
I will also be hitting the woods with a bunch of SOFs from New Sweden BMW riders of South Jersey. We will be a group of about 5 people on bigger bikes - I hope we cross paths. I will be on my 650.

I sent you a PM to get your meeting times -

Would anyone mind describing the skill level needed to join one of these rides, assuming of course, that the ride is open to strangers. I ride a KLX 250 and just got a R1200GS that I would love to play in the dirt with , within reason . My skill level is only intermediate at best I have been through the PB's on my 250. Not loving sand. Lots of street miles for many years. Me..58 yrs old and not interested in getting hurt. Thanks

we cater to the intermediate skill level; If you're an A or B Enduro rider then this is NOT he ride for you.
We usually ride anything the PB can throw at us and wait for people to catch up. you should be okay - I'm
59 and not interested in getting hurt either.

sorry we missed you guys today - we spent the entire day in Brendan Byrne - about 50 miles total at a leisurely pace exploring dirt roads, whoops, cranberry bogs.

    our group was 5:
    Tom on a 1200 GSA
    Johnny on an 1150 GSA
    Billy on a vintage XR200
    Judy on a TW200
    me on my 650

    great day in the woods!

We were in your area for a while, I was looking for your tracks but did not see any. Bunch of riders
out there today. We then headed south for most of the afternoon.

    Maybe next time

Pic of the "Desperados" - another great day in the PBarrens. lost of water but the sand packed down really well.
The "SOF Rider Of the Month" award goes to Jason - who took a BMW GS1200 where BMW did not intend it to go.
Great job Jason - I honestly thought you were going to struggle but you made out really well.

He did very well. I love it when people do not think their BMW are too pretty to get dirty.

Thank you for a great day.

Great day guys, and I second the notion for Jason as Rider of the Month! Also, I have to start running the Go-pro, Rob almost submarining his Husky would have made the highlight real for sure, I think the birds in the trees got hit with that wall off water!

    Awesome ride today guys!

Made it home without even a hiccup. Opened the airbox and pulled the filter and is was barely even moist at all. I think an hour home at 65+mph must have dried everything out.

I had no idea how deep that water was, would have loved to see that on video, and Really glad I stayed on the throttle!!! Haha

Thanks for the fast reply. If the group is open to a couple more riders, my friend and I would love to join. We did this crazy Ironman ride out by State College PA last summer, and got in over way our heads. When we saw alot of older guys on well used KTM's, we knew we were in trouble Took some wrong turns into "expert "terrain. Won't do that again!
