another hour to go..trucks are catching him now..
According to his spot tracker it looks like he's done. No official word yet.
Confirmed. He finished about 20 min ago. Looks happy to me.

555 miles with two minor get-offs, within 20 minutes of each other, and no mechanicals. If fact, besides the air-filter getting changed and the light going on at RM 477 nothing was touched on the bike.
I'll give a full report later but now I just wanted to check in and tell everyone thanks for following the event and giving support. More than once I thought about the people from everywhere who were thinking about me out there. It was great to feel the support.
I'm not sure where I finished. I started above mid pack in the Expert Ironman class and in the first 30 miles of fog-like dust I was passed by a half a dozen riders. After that I only passed a few on the race course but I know I took more than a couple down in the pits (my crew was awesome...more on that later).
We'll see, but it doesn't really matter. I finished in one piece and was able to get off the bike and besides a couple of gear issues, and the never absent hand trouble, I'm confident I could ride longer. More later...thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone for following my latest adventure in Nevada. For those who might be interested in more details or just want to get a taste for the Vegas to Reno race I thought I might start at the beginning a bit.
This is the view from the back seat of the van on the way to Vegas. Brandon (as seen in the mirror) was driving and Kevin was in the passenger seat as we cruised down the canyon in Arizona. In an interesting twist, all three of us had had fairly lousy sleeps the evening prior for completely different reasons. The conversation was excellent and the race talk was a plenty.
We rolled into Vegas with the A/C blasting and the local temps pushing 110 degrees. We found the parking lot and went inside to get registered. Afterwards we unloaded the 450 and pushed it towards the tech inspection. It was cool pushing the bike through the trucks and buggies, but it was certainly toasty.
There was a line at tech but it moved pretty quickly. The bike passed without issue and the inspector thanked us for following the rules and taking care of the details in prep for the tech inspection. I find it amazing that people would spend the money to enter the event and not read the details about some of the requirements on the tech.
After tech we reloaded the bike and moved the van into the parking garage to get out of the sun. Though the temps were the same, it felt about 30 degrees cooler in the garage. We took the chance to go over a few of the pit plans and the details for mounting the lights for late in the race.
A quad team stopped by to say hi and gave us a 12 pack of some energy drink they were promoting for us to use during the race. My one energy drink experience ended in me cramped on the floor of my Westy and Brandon packing up our bikes and driving me home after a race. Needless to say we accepted the gift but it was not on my nutritional plan for the following day.
We snapped a quick shot over the parking lot before heading into the riders meeting. Tech inspection for bikes was past the General Tire inflatable.
The riders meeting was informative and Casey was tops at getting the eager crowd ready for the following days action. I snapped a quick pick of the group and if you look closely you can do a Where's Waldo and see Brandon hamming it up for the camera. Inmate Machtig is also in this pic with his wife, but I'll let you find him yourself.
Brandon and Kevin were stoked waiting for the rider's meeting to begin.
After the riders meeting we grabbed some grub and drove up to Beatty to the starting line. We found a flat spot and pitched a tent that finally led to sleep close to 1 AM. Our alarms were set for 4:45.
Next up - Race morning.
I feel like I am getting my old "race tummy" just reading this. I am enjoying the build-up and look forward to more.
Tuesday before your race I tried to just ride my Buell the 250 miles on tarmac across VA (Roanoke2Norfolk) thinking Friday morning I would be riding back while you raced. My Tuesday ride ended 50 miles short when SR 40 started feeling like it was all chewed up-but looked fine. After the third time in a couple miles of pulling to the side of a peanut field to kick my tires and check fasteners, I realized my trouble. I was able to grab the rear wheel and wobble it back and forth. The right side bearings were gone and in their place was a fine dusting of metallic shavings. I guess I needed additional prep work.
