Incredible. The pictures, the story, the journey. And most of all you, Sir. It has been a high privilege to be allowed access to your travels through this report. It has set the bar very high for the next effort by anyone.

Dress warm! I've seen -27 C for the third week in April in Siberia, further west mind, around Neftugansk. If you cross before the high ground melts, the rivers might still be low and there is a chance it will have dried on the surface. But it can flip pretty fast.

I believe there is still snow in early May.
I think the best time is July and the first half of August. May can be cold and the rivers are deep water. I was in the first two weeks of July. However, there was a lot of rain, every day and night. After the Hani are several places in the snow and ice in July.

There will be too much snowmelt in May. Rivers will be very high.

Yes, this is not a problem, Transiberian highway is asphalt, the weather is definitely still cool.

Trans-Siberian is a major asphalt highway full of 40 ton freight trucks barrelling along at 100 km/h. Its not seasonal.

The BAM Road is a dirt track thats missing many bridges ... it is seasonal.

2010 trip to Mongolia was difficult for me, I was seriously ill one week, I lost my map and went the wrong way.... middle of the Gobi.

Sorry about the slow reply :-) We did BAM in early August. The river were fairly low then.

Don't look back, you are not going in that direction :-)
