Will someone please send me in the right direction to find out how to make the homemade carb sync tool using ATF. I have spent the past couple of hours searching on this forum and only came up with the fancyer home made tool that uses guages. Some time back I recall seeing one made of clear tubing and ATF, with air bleed holes in the tubing. That's the one I'd like to make. The simpler the better. Knew I should have copied the directions at the time. An old timer friend of mine has asked me to see if I can get his 1996 R80GS to run better than it is. It sounds terrible in my opinion, think it has seen too many African shade tree mechanics! Suposidly the carbs have had new rebuild kits installed, and I do not know who the person is that did the work. I suspect that besides the valve adjustment being way off, there will most likely be problems with the carbs. The owner of the bike suspects that the carbs were pulled off and apart together, so parts are mix matched. Are there a lot of parts that are differant between the left and right side carbs? The owner also tells me that he has a couple of manuals for the bike, so I'm hoping that at least one of them is the workshop manual. I sure don't mean to insult any of you that have the newer BMW bikes with TBs instead of carbs, by posting this here . Actually, because of this site and his old R80GS, I'm considering selling my 640 and buying a new 1200GS in a couple of years after all the new model bugs are sorted out. Still don't like the idea of "good for life" final drive oil though . But it sure looks like a sweet bike. Any other tips for the 80GS anyone is willing to give up, will be much appreicated.
