Ural recently made a statement on thier facebook page that one of thier Seattle peeps would be attending on something "undisclosed".

I'll be expecting a full report here!

I will be watching too! OH if only they would produce a rig that would travel interstates!

    Howdy All,

Sergey, the master wrench who works for IMWA rode the Prototype fuel injected, disk brakes all around Ural test mule in this years Black Dog.

It was parked near my toy hauler from Friday afternoon till the IMWA team loaded all the their rigs up late Sunday afternoon. Sergey and I rode our rigs together on the Saturday and Sunday rides, the Prototype runs well, very well indeed. :evil

    Howdy Audaciter,

I have taken MANY photos as this project has progressed over the last year, I am often at "Little Irbit" getting prototype parts installed on the "Predator" I have been a test rider for IMWA for the last six years. A dirty rotten job but someone has to do it. Here's some photos of the prototype in various stages of development.

This is the OLD prototype rear disk, I haven't yet down loaded the new prototype that has the parking brake. A "parking brake" is a dot requirement that is causing a lot of problems to incorporate into the disk brake system.

I'll be going down to "Little Irbit" tomorrow, Friday the 14th and will snap some photos of the newest generation of the prototype disk brakes now on the test mule. :deal

    Awesome! Thanks for the pics!

I see why your name gets thrown around as a good Ural resource!

Is there any projected date for production?

    Thanks Dave,
That's exactly what I would have expected, since they started talking about both changes months ago. But the way they said "riding something...undisclosed" was a little misleading...since we were already expecting those upgrades.

Honestly though, although the disc brakes are clearly an improvement, I have mixed feelings about the fuel injection. I honestly don't care what performance difference it brings at 5600 rpm, but if there's an increase in torque output at half that rpm I'd be ecstatic.

Ski gave me a bit of the skinny on the new rig last week when I was at his shop. Sounded pretty interesting.

Since it's fuel injected, does anybody know where the fuel pump is?

There are 2 mounted on the tank.

I followed Sergei most of the rally, it does indeed work very well, and the increase in fuel economy is significant.

If you look closely, you can see the disc on the hack.

I like the oil filter at the front of the engine (assuming that is what it is right?) rather than the paper filter going in underneath. How much does that air filter housing weigh?? I'm also assuming there was some power increase as well with the fuel injection?

    Howdy All,

As I said yesterday, today I would be at Little Irbit, and had planned on posting some more photos, Ilya told me to say no more or post any more photos or he would set "Igor the Russian mafia hit man" on my arse. :huh :eek1 so that's all folks.

    Howdy Justkip,

I just found this out when over on Soviet Steeds, NO disrespect meant to Igor Rumyantsev, the "Igor" I mentioned is a boogie man used to scare IMWA employees and others who frequent Little Irbit into not overstepping the security bounds laid out by Ilya.

Parking brakes, eh? Didn't the old Land Rover series rigs have the parking brake clamp onto the driveshaft? Wouldn't that be an easier method than trying to figure out something on the rear disc? It's been 20 years since I rebuild my old SIII LR, so I may be way off on this.

No, not yet. I stopped by to get a Heidenau for the front of the Beemer rig. I'd consider a new one if the FI works well.
