I saw a four wheeler tagged and being street ridden there. Also saw a "rhino" with a tag and a baby seat while there. IMHO a dirt bike shouldn.t be to hard to tag.........but I never tried. :deal

You can. Under 250cc cannot be ridden on the interstate(ATV or dirtbike)
There are only 2 interstates here,so no big.

I see a lot of plated dirt bikes in South Dakota. My understanding is that you just have to sign a statement attesting that the bike has all required road equipment. No inspection, no check of serial numbers.

Along the same lines, I have seen 4-wheelers mixing it up in rush hour traffic on Omaha Avenue.

Colorado is another state where it is pretty easy to plate a dirt bike.

I'm a Minnesotan who is triing to plate a XR650R but the rules for titling/registeration have changed in MN. Sort of a longshot but I saw the thread and it seemed appropriate.
Any inmates in SoDak willing to help with titling and plating a MN bike?

Hey Looper, I am in Nebraska & have an 07 CRF230 plated in SD. I went to a county courthouse with all the paper work that I thought I would need. I asked one of the ladys working there if I needed a PO Box to have a SD address & if I needed SD insurance, she said I didn't need either. Here's what I did have to have, either an offroad title or MSO in my name this was to verify the VIN on some sort of legal Doc. Then they did an application for title which was sent to the state capital & then was sent to me, also I had to sign an affidavid that I made this street legal. I was then issued a registration with my NE home address and a PLATE. They renew the plates yearly, my last name starts with an N so I renew in July. Renewal fee for 2010 was $10.43. I will contiue to give my fee to SD. The only other thing I didn't mention is that you have to show proof that you pd sales tax when you purchased your bike or will have to pay them. If you bought it privately, make a bill of sale with a reasonable market price & pay sales tax on that. Hope that helps you. You can PM me if you have any other questions.

    dirtdoc,
if i'm not mistaken, i rode my black/blue suzuki dr250 with you and your friend that has the dr350? if not oops, but man it seems like this has to be you! anyway i ended up having to get rid of that bike, and got a 2002 drz400e, trail only that has been set up with blinkers, horn, etc, and it was a legal road bike in arkansas. brought it to ne, and you know the rest of the story, they won't let me ride it here ::(. i need to get this thing legal one way or another, BAD! is it really as easy as riding it to south dakota and asking for a plate? they don't need proof of residency or anything like that?? seems too easy.
    :huh .
lemme knoW ! any help is much appreciated!

You don't need to ride there. Do it with a call to SD courthouse for fees, then mail it up.

are they going to ask if i'm a resident or anything?
any questions i need to be prepared for.
just seems too good to be true :rofl:rofl

You will need to send a photo copy of your NE driver license, they want to know your real address! SD is fine with it. They send you a early reminder postcard for renewals, have to mail a check. Proof of insurance when you take it out on the road.

Told my old man and he id certain that it must still be illegal. It seems fairly safe to me. Know of anyone getting hassled by ne cops for having sd plates and ne license? ?

hey man, thanks for that! little reassuring. crazy how simple it can be to plate a dirtbike in nebraska. i had already given up, but then i crashed my 89 honda nx250, and it got me thinkin....
now for this question. not that i REALLY care, but is riding a plated dirt bike in a state that doesnt allow dirt bikes to be plated equivalent to riding other tagged offroad vehicles (rhino's, quads, etc.) in a state that doesnt allow it.

i know it looks less obvious to ride an offroad machine when its a dirt bike with a blinker kit, but i just wonder if it is still illegal, and if so, how much the ticket is if anyone knows.

Going riding under the bridge today on the drz.
hauling in in the van for hopefully the last time!:jkam

I have 2 of the same bike one has a NE tag other has a SD tag. The SD tag one looks more like a DS than my NE tag one.

Okay so here's my real issue.
Im 21and live a very lawful lifestyle, because when i was 17 i got in big trouble and am STILL on probation in sarpy county. What my fam keeps asking is "what the hell u gonna tell the cops when u get pulled over with out of state plates and a ne license

What is the punishment for using this loophole. If any?
If i wasn't already on probation i wouldn't be too worried

Have u or has anyone been pulled over with the sd plates. What do the cops say?

I just, this year plated my XR650r. All I had for the DMV lady was a Bill of sale and a offraod registration that previous owner had. And of course a I had to fill out that letter/check list. Went back to DMV and I had a licenses and a few week later I had a title! The Funny part about it was that I didn't even have any of the check list items done yet! :rofl:lol3

Here's a link to that check list I had to fill out.

None of us have ever been pulled over with out SD plates on Nebraska bikes. I can't answer that question. As long as you have insurance on it and you aren't transporting dope with it, i am thinking you will really have to piss off the cop to have them give you any problems with it.
