I have done a couple of dixie dual sport events and Swampy and wife very nice. There are some very nice folks around the Central FL area that ride a lot both on and off road.

I like to ride the back roads off the beaten path mostly....will do some dirt roads but right now do not have an off road bike......

    Welcome :clap

    Hey Florida!

I'll be in Tamarac FL for a wedding on June 1st. Figured before I head back North Eh. to Canada eh. I'd rent a bike and take a couple day trips. Logistically I think it'll be best for me to keep a home base at the hotel as it'll make it easiest to store my suit luggage etc.

One day trip I'd like to make is into the keys.

Does anyone have any gps tracks of other good Day rides in the area?

also... I find lots of Harley rentals, but after all the bikes I've owned, I love my KLR.... any KLR rentals down there?

Looking forward to seeing your awesome State for the first time in my life.:wings

I don't have tracks laid out, but just google Loop Road, Janes Scenic Drive, Sabel Palm Drive, Turner River Road. These are all towards the west off Tamiami trail and get you a bit back in the Everglades. Depending on the timing when you are here the group of us that ride together could possible setup a run on the route we ride on the levee roads. I know it, but have never saved it.......:cry

A run to Key West and back will be a full day. Best started early and if you can, do it on a week day. Remember there is one way in and one way out, which is a mostly 2 lane road with mostly 45 mph speed limits, cops that don't tolerate speeders much and then there is the traffic. Don't expect a smooth sailing, nobody in your way, ride to KW....won't happen. With that said, I highly recommend the ride. There are not many places in the world that you can ride for 130 miles on a strip of road that splits to major bodies of water. South of Bud and Mary's Marina at the 80 mile marker the ride becomes great.....as you cross the bridges the colors and contrasts of the water are amazing. All kinds of little things to stop and do along the way. I would recommend you stay the night in Key West or somewhere near the end of the road, its just a long ride up and back in one day. The ride from Homestead down is 3 hours, so from Tamarac add at a minimum of 1-1.5 more hours.......and the 3 hours is based on one bathroom stop and normal moderate traffic and relatively close to the speed limits. If you meander at all, stop for lunch, and do tourist stuff, you are looking at probably 5+ hours to make the run down.

About the best you might get around here for a rental dual sport will be a BMW from Eagle Rider Motorcycle rentals. They have a shop right by the airport and they rent R1200GS. Which if you can handle a KLR you should be ok with a 1200GS on all the roads about........Except Sable Palm and Squares. It can be a bit dicey out there on a big bike if you are not use to one. I don't know of anybody else that rents a small DS bike around here. The 1200 GS will also a comfortable ride for you down into the Keys also.

Keep us posted..........warning though......bring mesh gear to ride, It can be a bit warm and muggy the first of June, especially for a northlander eh!!

Looking for some riding buddies in south fl. I want to make a little riding group :). I got a pretty modified Dr 650 and eventually going to convert it to motard. I love urbexing (urban exploring) on the bike and know great trails too. I'm in the Kendall area and am up to ride any time. If you have the messageme app on android, my pin is JY 653 JPY. Add me and lets get lost lol.

Got a PM from Rub A Dub.....seems that his island does not support the GS after all the trouble he went to to get it there....He has bought a smaller bike and said lots of scooters there.....He is working his own business there and will give us a shout when he gets state side....

I don't know who I saw on that Yellow bike on A1A tonight but someone waving....I finally got out for a nice ride over to Seawatch for supper and then thought I would ride by the beach but A1A was closed by the beach area so came on back west.....

Hope to ride with some of you soon.....let me know if any street rides going on.....

South FLA riders and friends. Sjaac Lucassen will be passing through our area this weekend after he completes his real Corner to Corner run will be staying with Angie and I as he preps his bike and trailer to ship back to the Netherlands. A link to his website is below. He is an extreme adv'r!! The current trip, The Polar Ice Ride, has him travelling from Point Barrow, AK to Key West. Yes, I said Point Barrow, he shipped the bike and trailer up there and then rode across the ice and tundra to Prudhoe Bay and then has traveled down the Dalton and is now in Athens, GA.

He should be at the house no later than Monday afternoon. Come by and say hello and listen to his stories,(buy the DVD also!!) and hang out for some beers. Maybe help build the shipping crate for the bike.........

If there is enough interest I would be up for a little get together at the house on Saturday 4/27/13..........grill some burgers and dogs, enjoy some adult beverages and share trip lies and stories. Not that this is an ad to sell shit, but it would help him peddle is DVD, adventure traveling is what he does and funds it by speaking engagements and DVD sales........

anyway.........let me know if you wanna drop by or let me know about interest on the 27th. Not much for riding down here near the end of the highway, but the beer is cold!!! Plenty of tent space also, and a couple of couches.................

    PM or email me!!

    Next Saturday.

Might wanna slide down during the week to check out the rig because the plan is to disassemble the bike and stuff it in the trailer and then crate the trailer for shipment. I haven't spoke to him about when he would tear down the bike, but if there is interest he probably would leave it together long enough to let people come by to check it out.
