Hello Mississippi riders. My name is Matt. I'm out on a ride. Heading into the Desoto national forest for a few days. Always found local knowledge to be the best. Anyone know of some great gravel, dirt roads that I should hit? Also looking for nice spots to camp. Anyone riding? Thanks

Matt is a good guy, we rode with him last Saturday in Homichito & Tunica hills. He's making his way east on a DRZ400. The scenic route (lots of gravel).

Yo Matt, here is a google pin to the Bethel trail head, you can camp there.

Also the south Alabama guys watch this thread too some of them may hook up for some seat time with you or provide Intel on getting through that beautiful area.

Good luck on your travels to Fla & TET back to Maryland.

Sounds like an epic ride. Some of us will be in the Blackwater forest just north of Pensacola / Milton FL area this weekend. May be camping Sat night. If you need directions let me know. Doubt I will be riding until then. Work sucks! I'm in Mobile AL and ride over at DeSoto sometimes. Keep us updated as to where you're at and safe travels.

    Hey Bacon,

Airey lake, the POW camp off Bethel, and Fairley Bridge Landing are all decent De Soto camp sites. Check them out on the map and plot your route however you'd like. There are other places to camp in there so don't limit yourself to those three. All of the fire roads are mostly a mix of red dirt and gravel. A touch of sand here and there. Some spots can be slick after rain. The MVUM map is available online and Bing maps seems to show the dirt roads better on their satellite imagery.

Hope that helps. Ask away if you have questions. We'll tell you AN answer. Hopefully it will be the right one.

    Oh, and welcome.

Hey tomcat125, I plan on riding and camping blackwater on Saturday. Maybe you all can show me around. Also where is a good spot to ├žamp? Weather forecast looks perfect

    This thread sure was buried....

Just wanted to say that I rode my R1200GS about 150 miles this morning for the first time in almost 2 years. It felt good too!! I've been occupied by other things and have not had the desire or want to ride. I've also considered selling her a few times, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. She stays in the man cave inside my home so she's been climate controlled this whole time, but I walk by her almost daily and lately have had concerns about the fuel etc. Today was the day that looked the best for no rain so I got up and broke the streak. I think I will start trying to ride a few times a month, maybe even to work.

I live in Vancleave and get behind a guy on a white one headed to Gautier several times a week. Is that you or the other?

So this South MS thread has been dead for a while. I live in Ocean Springs and ride with some guys from mobile and occasionally with some of the Jackson MS guys (pretty fast group) if anyone from on the coast would like to get together and ride gravel or paved hit me up! I ride a Triumph Tiger and I am pretty easy to get along with. Don't mind running slow or fast! Just like to ride. I work shift work so I am usually able to get away during the week more so than the weekends. I would love to see this thread take off again!
