    >"Light House site was out by the Submarine site past Centerville Beach..."

    Nothing out there.

The lighthouses in that area were at Mendocino, Table Bluff... and one at Punta Gorda.
Table Bluff was transplanted to Woodley Island Marina (Eureka).
Mendocino light was double transplanted !
Lighthouse was taken to Shelter Cove.
Fresnel Lens was taken to Ferndale, where a 'dummy replica' lighthouse was built !
Big 'dispute' over the lens between Coast Guard and Ferndale. (Interesting story).
Punta Gorda lighthouse is still out there.

Humboldt Bay north... old lighthouse at the North Jetty.
You can still find the old curved-bricks and old catwalk if you know where to look.
Trinidad... old lighthouse was transplanted up on the cliff.
New lighthouse took it's place out on Trinidad Head.

    >"Can you ID where those wheelbarrows are, TZ? Let's see how good you are!"

Ohboy. (Dammit)... Seems like I've seen them... (dammit)... now where was it... (dammit again).
You're makin' me look bad !!!! (dammit).
Hmmm... maybe at 'Malfunction Junction'. (Bear River Ridge) ???

I am looking for photos of the old Capetown Stage Stop. It was there until... I guess the 1970's ?
Torn down. The newer house at Capetown sits pretty much were the old stop was.

    Meanwhile... in downtown 'Petrolia'...

I did 493 miles yesterday, big loop, 13 hrs:

Ferndale - Blue Slide Rd - 101 S - Ave of Giants - breakfast at The Avenue Cafe in Miranda - 101 - 271 - 101 - 1 S to Ft Bragg - 20 E to Willits - 101 N - 162 E / FH 7 E / 162 E to Willows - old US 99 N - some random county roads to Red Bluff - dinner at Palomino Room - 36 W to home. Never been on 20 on a bike before, great fun. Mendo Pass Rd / 162 / FH 7 was pretty nice once I got about 10 miles east of the first bit of gravel, and actually started going up and over. Nice and cool up top. 162 is pretty nice. I wish there was an obvious, easy way to get across the river to the train tunnels so I could check them out. It was cool on the coast, hot inland, cool on top of the mountains. The central valley reminds me of back home, flat with grid roads every mile or so, lots of ranches and orchards. Everything was brown but still pretty. Palomino Room BBQ in RB was fantastic food, I will absolutely be back. I left RB at 6:30 so I rode most of 36 in the dark. Spooky fun!

Only bad: I ate shit on 20. I was getting progressively more and more aggressive in the corners and after completing a center-line straddling pass of a bunch of cars, I came in hot to a corner and just leaned tooooooo far. Past the edge of the rear tire, at least. Slid down the road. I actually didn't even get excited - no adrenaline spike or anything. It was like I kind of knew it was coming with the level of aggressiveness I was riding at. The Strom isn't a sport bike and the Tractionators aren't race rubber. No damage to the bike save for some gouging on the right Barkbuster, brake pedal, and crash bar. Freaking Barkbusters and Altrider man, you get what you pay for, for sure. Tore up my pants a little and my jacket rode up and exposed my gun which caused my freaking custom Mitch Rosen holster to get rashed up, and the spare magazine I carry in my cargo pocket got rashed up as well. I was most aggravated about my holster.

Anyway, I jumped up as soon as I quit sliding, went over to the bike and lifted it up, cycled the ignition, and rode away. The line of cars I had just passed hadn't even made it around the curve yet so I guess it was like it didn't even happen. I think something may be wrong with me though. I was laughing about it and almost immediately was riding at that same stupid level of aggression. No lesson learned. Gah.

Dimmick Rd. They have TWO trailers making a bridge over the S Fork Eel River. I tried to ride over it but a friendly grower dude told me it was private and requested that I leave.

Near the dead end / cul de sac on 271 almost to Confusion Hill. You can ride down a set of gravel switchbacks to the river. The old road is still here - kind of.

There is also a large drainage tunnel thing that goes under 101, I think you could ride through it on the right bike. I walked part of the way in.

Near Mendo Pass on FH 7 / Hwy 162. Possibly (?) Black Butte Lake in distance.

Cool old bridge over Stone Creek on Hwy 162 near the town of Elk Creek

Wow,you musta been moving pretty good the whole time to cover that route, corners, dirt, gravel and all. Ive had a 650 strom, and a 1000 strom. I figured out that Im too much of a loon on pavement and would get the 1000 all leaned over and the front end would break loose and start me going who knows where. Long wheelbase needs to be leaned way over to turn at speed.

Ive got that 1250 Bandit but my DR650 flies in the tight stuff on 36 or elsewhere. Glad the crash turned out fine, hate the thought of sliding on pavemento.

162 going east heading up to Bucks Lake is like a GP track in spots, some amazing smooth pavement with great S turns. Theres a short dirt detour on it at Mountain House. Regular loop is up 162 to bucks lake then Quincy for lunch, then head up steep tight twist road to Laporte and then down to Oroville and back to Chico. 200 miler from here on all fun roads.

Thanks Foot dragger, sounds like a nice ride. I will have to drag out the Maps to pick a route from Santa Rosa and back.

The wheelbarrows don't seem to notice, and have accepted the V-Strom as one of their own.

I just followed this route (I think! ) on the map. Looks good. Might bug over and ride it tomorrow. I've been through there on 70 / 89 before and I really liked the state highway.

Going up 162,I rode around and past all the road closed signs, even the ones saying road gated ahead. I got to the Big Hole and rode around it on the trail on far right DSCF1314.JPG DSCF1316.JPG DSCF1317.JPG .
Any streetbike should fit on it. Its better then riding the 5 miles of dusty dirt detour if your on a streetbike.

162 between 101 and Dos Rios on the north side of the road there are abandoned tracks, quite a few trestles over the river, and at least two RR tunnels.

Yeah, I gouged up the expendable bits but nothing that requires replacement. I did slightly tweak the forks in the triple tree, but nothing that loosening all the bolts and realigning the front wheel didn't fix. Once again, having quality shit - Pro Tapers, Altrider guards, real Barkbusters - is the difference between getting a tow and picking it up and shrugging it off.

I'm getting ready to roll out right now, I have my sleeping bag on the back because I figure this will turn into an overnighter to go do the Feather River ride / Quincy. Probably go across 299 and drop south through Lassen. EDIT, no, I won't... apparently 299 is closed east of Weaverville. Maybe take 299 to FH 1 to 36 and over that way then...
