Rode Maple Creek Road this afternoon.
Road is in good shape, lot of the loose gravel is down in the dirt.
Nice traction. Paved sections had lots of leaves on 'em though.
Cold temps up on top of Kneeland.

Looks like Bald Hills/French Creek/Baird Road is pretty dangerous now.
Armed robbers... apparently did 3 or 4 robberies in the past few days.
IMHO: No go on that road... for now!

I feel bad for the tourists from Spain. Trip ruined and all they will remember is that horrible event.

The dope growers that got ripped off by the same crew, well I don't care about them.

Armed robbers on backroads....WTH. Is there suspicion they are growers or watchers of same crops out for extra cash?
Mexican cartel has been doing grows up in mountains around where we trailride. 1 person has been shot and killed by growers up there,a hunter. No one ever caught but 1000's of plants found.

dont know any details of the tourists being robbed, but were they tourists or trimmers on a day off?
The rumor mill is full of stories of young Spanish trimmers this season
Either way not a good time to be in the hills

Tourists from Spain.....touring backroads at the coast? Somehow that does sound odd.

The place they were said to be robbed (by the same guys who stole a thousand pounds of pot )was on the same road as the grow that was hit, which is also the main road through Redwood National Park.
So it could have been good people in the wrong place
A lot of well meaning "travelers" are being drawn to the area with the lure of easy money and 24/7 parties.
Kind of a modern day "Grapes of Wrath " kind of deal.
And we all know how that turned out.

Well Bald Hills is the main road other than 101 through the RSNP but I do agree, that's a little odd. The cars they were in aren't "tourist" cars. ...old Explorer and shitty van with BC tags...so yeah, maybe trimmers and not tourists. I took the media's account at face value though.

    Where is Bunker Hill?

I got your Strawberry Hill barn and the intersection of Bluff and Grizzly Bluff... because I live about 100 feet behind where that last photo was taken...

Bunker Hill is actually Bear River Ridge. It is what the road was called long ago, that sign is on the north end of the road just before you get to the road coming up from Ferndale. Left hand side of the road up a small hill side. At least it was a few years ago.

Ha ha I had heard that before and didn't know it referred to that intersection. We were VERY lucky when the firestorm roared thru Santa Rosa, we had to leave the morning of the 8th for a day or two and again 6 days later. But our house and surrounding homes survived. So many didn't and it is tough to see so many homes and businesses completely gone. Thanks for asking.

    Hi guys
There is another thread in west region titled "California tag o Rama"
It Is a photo based Geo cache kind of game.
The current picture appears to be at the parking lot at black sands beach.
So if anyone feels like playing here is your chance.

I was quite into that game back home. The relative smallness of Ohio made it easier and more fun. In fact, I still follow the Ohio tag thread and the last time I rode home I popped in and got a tag, just to fuck with them.

I have looked at the California tag game a few times but between the size of the state, the weirdness of some of the clues given, the fucked up expectations, and the apparent douchiness of the guy that oversees the game, I've never actually played.

One would guess, that Mendocino pass has had frozen snow on it for a while now?

I went up to Cold Springs last weekend, snow elevation was pretty high. The pass may still be clear...
