Not really,3 of us rode over to Covelo for lunch today. At my urging we rode M4 over which worked well, road was great with almost no dust and nice packed moist dirt. Rode over 5600' elevation that way with no snow only a little ice. Had lunch at the Grass fed burger place in Covelo, pretty good fish sandwich. We attempted FH7 going home but too much ice not that far from the summit.

Cars are doing it no problem,a dirtbike would be ok. But 1 of us was on a Triumph 800XC,I dont like ice on the DR. Then there's the downhill shady icy section heading towards the valley right off the summit. We slid around some and headed back to M4. Classic Jeremy/Brad style got home in cold/dark.

Yup. I was up on FH1 today. No f/n snow!
Didn't go up the bad spot on the east side of SF mountain though.
    40 bloody degrees up there.

"Grass fed burger place in Covelo"

Which one is that ? Is it the one out east of Covelo ?
(Where the highway turns to FS roads). If so, surprised it's open now ?

Mina is the grass fed burger place right in downtown Covelo, but you have to walk around behind the white building, the front door is just to fake you out that nobody's home. The Barb-q place way out of covelo had an open sign up.
The X-Mas Bazaar was happening in Covelo,we were also told there was a good coffee shop just down the road from Mina.

    European trimmigrants were around town.

I know what you mean, I picked up a geocache game piece from the southern trailhead to Wheeler one time, and moved it to the south end of Bell Springs road, thinking I was doing the guys in the Bay Area a favor. They got all kinds of grumpy. I think it is still there.
What happened to our Shelter Cove member? He could grab it on a day hike.

Ever walk in to Wheeler ?
I wonder what's in that old town and mill site...
but stuff on the rainy coast doesn't last very long though.

I have hiked in a couple of times from the Bear Harbor side.
The only thing left in town are the foundations.
Don’t quote me on this, but I believe it used to be standard operating procedure to burn / tear down the structures back in the 60’s to keep the “ hippies” from home steading
I know the forest service took out a couple of ghost towns in the Trinity alps ( Denny and a couple neighboring towns) for that reason.

Yup. The sheriffs department used to burn them down.
Did the same thing to the old Punta Gorda lighthouse station... also to
the old office at the Bear Harbor lumber company.
Lucky that they didn't burn down the Needle Rock ranch house.

"apparent douchiness" I like it. New buzz words I can use at upcoming Holiday gatherings.

I use "douche" or a variant of often. Usually if the person I am arresting is mildly combative and a dick, when they scream at me "what am I being arrested for? ", I respond with "douchebaggery".

Unrelated, I think I am going to sell my 2011 Strom. Loaded up with everything, 29k miles, needs nothing. I'll get an ad together soon but if someone wants to save me the trouble....

What sort of suspension work works good on these? Is the new strom lots better?

I can't speak for other suspension but I have a Sasquatch suspension built for a 240lb rider.

I actually like the old strom better, but I have the newer one and it makes more sense to keep it.

I somehow fell off this thread months ago. I've been playing in Tucson a bit. I dropped off the FJR over there when I helped a friend move. I hope to go back to do some more exploring later this winter.
edit- I will go grab that Tag0Rama and move it up into the Redwoods.

Finally got my battery replaced after foolishly leaving the phone charger in my tank bag plugged into an unswitched source (I think MeefZah is close to taking my bike into protective custody). Took a ride up to Orick, whereupon an elk started eyeballing my bike.

Then he tried to stare me down .... IMGP2179.JPG

Stopped along the beach to watch the waves.

We saw some idiot walking up to a elk in the field at the south end of Drury Parkway yesterday. She was holding out twigs in her hand and had the camera in the other.

Weather looks favorable for a ride north next week (Mon-Fri-ish). Probably ride XT1200 on her last tour before sale. However, I have a fresh DR waiting for a ride if one of you want to Tour me around on the good stuff! Anyway, I have done 1, FH1, 36, 299, 3 and some other cool roads in the area. Interested in 162, FH7, Lost coast, goaty pavement.

If any of you would suggest an awesome curvy, backroad, one day loop, I would swear to never tell another living soul about it. Knowledge is power and appreciated.

PS- My Dad was the owner of Humbolt Cycle Center in Eureka and President of Far-West M/C in the 60's.

    Thanks-
    Brad

Considering that's a National Park, that's probably some sort of federal crime.

They were meandering across Davison Rd. as I took my pictures. They moved away when I started up the bike.

No curves to be found. Especially the one to Shelter Cove.
