Yes that was a fun weekend ... Just couldn't get stuff together for one this year...
I may come by cage. I was gonna ride to work today but I decided I need 500 horses to blow off some steam.
Jaxes believe it or not; Erik, I thought you might do just that. I thought it would be a great way to blow some steam.
I think I just picked my smurf.
You are gonna have to be Surly.. I'm already grumpy.
I must be bored. Posting like a mf this morning.
"I was gonna ride to work today but I decided I need 500 horses to blow"
I'd be cranky too if I had to blow 500 horses!:eek1
The first one is usually enough to put me in a foul mood.
Since I spent yesterday terrorizing rural roads and scaring horses, I thought I'd say hi.
If you ever get a chance to get to Burke's Garden, it is a really cool, elevated valley encircled by a single mountain. Fun steep dirt/gravel road with switch backs in/out from the south (route). Tons of other great roads all throughout the area and plenty of history.
Also, this section of 58 in Virginia (between Independence and Damascus) is a great twisty road. I see all the signs of it being a huge Harley hang out on the weekends, but don't let that stop you.
Had my first water crossing on the 1150. Thought it looked 4 to 6 inches deep, but somehow ended up at mid-shin by the end. Good times!

Leaving Bristol today via "The Snake" and heading towards Asheville, NC for a few nights. I think I know where I am going to drop the NA Tag on tomorrow's ride...
Anybody got a tic-tac?
I think that's the case. It is hard to convey tone in an internet forum. You post an open invite on the internet for a ride and people show up - these things are out of our control. Newbs show up, people who are clueless of horses can show up. Its just the way it is. I have lead a bunch of rides through the area, shared routes with people I have ridden with and encourage anyone who can to get out and ride the Mosby Heritage Area to do so. Last time I had 10 folks show up - in the past it had been at the max 5. This creates an insane amount of dust and prompts home owners to come running down their drive ways to wave others off the road. Because of this I am no longer doing open invites. The crossing at JEB Stuart also has a very protective land owner flanking it from all sides. He is lobbying VDOT to close the road and he does get confrontational. Yes these are public roads. Is it appropriate to lead a large group through the area? I don't think so - but again that is my 2 cents.
This statement could not be farther from the truth. I don't even live in the "NOVA back country" - whatever that is. It is poor form to post PM's but the exchange with your friend that you are referencing was absurd.
Sounds great - look forward to meeting you. In the meantime if you are looking for a character reference feel free to talk to all of the other SMIBers that I have ridden with in the past.
Also - if you stop fuming and the crowd is not too large I would love to join y'all. Maybe we can smoke a peace pipe and bury the hatchet?
IN....see you all tonight
YOU are in my back yard !! And didn't stop by to say HI and have a piece of pie !!! Shame on YOU !!!! :ddog NO PIE FOR YOU !!!
Burkes is 6 mile down the road from my farm
I actually had the thought as I was driving around the Burke's Garden valley that you probably lived in that area of Virginia. Alas, I didn't plan ahead and write, my loss...
Yes .. You could have even spent the night ....
We have a guest bed and indoor plumbing...
Oh well next time ..
I very much appreciate the kind offer.
I have very close friends in Bristol, and stayed two nights with them. One of them grew up in Bluefield and suggested a bunch of roads to me in your area. It was a great ride, and had a great lunch in the Main Street Cafe at Tazewell.
I'm procrastinating this morning, time to pack and get back out in the heat for one of my favorite roads in this area -- US Route 421 through the Cherokee National Forest.
This is exactly the kind of info that helps us all. By no means do any of us want to piss off the folks who reside in that area. We all want to be good stewards and portray our community in a good light.
I look forward to meeting you, and BS over a beer.
Now lets see if we can stir up the natives and start a discussion on "good" beer.
Then why did you make me go outside
