In mid-December I will be traveling north from Brookings on 101.

I will likely have a few spare days to screw around and a pair of light dualsports in the back of the van.

Any interesting side roads or beach access worthy of unloading the bikes along the southern half of the state, or am I better off just hauling butt toward Tillamook?

whiskey run beach is a real hoot! Miles and miles of salty fun, with stream crossings! Without going to "the dunes" it is one of the last bits of coast we can ride on.
Located off of 7 devils road to the north of the bandon golf course.

    Pmans advice is good.

Rest of it mostly depends on what the weather god grants you during your travel window.
Cape Perpetua south of Yachats is good, as is the forest service road east of there...assuming you can deal with mossy 2-track.

Miles of stuff around Coos Bay too, inland and beacho.
