Since it's winter, I thought I'd provide a few photos from some of last summer's riding in southwest Virginia. No motorcycles in the photos, but they were all taken while out riding.

Humpback Bridge is one of five publicly-accessible covered bridges in Virginia. It's near Covington.

Rehoboth Church is the oldest church building West of the Allegheny Mountains. It's in West Virginia, just a bit East of Union on WV 3. The roof you see is the protective shelter built over the original building.

Burke's Garden is the highest valley in Virginia. It's about 3100 feet and surrounded by Garden Mountain. The Appalachian Trail follows Garden Mountain on the southern edge of the valley. There are three entrances to the valley: a paved road from VA 61 to the North; a gravel road from VA 42 to the South; and a narrow rough forest road from US 52 to the East. There's also evidently a jeep trail to the Southwest, but I haven't located it yet.

    Here's a typical road in Burke's Garden.

This beautiful creek follows the road for a ways before it reaches its old millpond dam and makes its way out to Wolf Creek, which parallels VA 61.

[IMG]Here's a view of the millpond.

All good gardens must have flowers.

Everyone's in a good mood in Burke's Garden.

    Enjoy.

I think that jeep trail is on private property now and they have it gated off. Used to take you into Thompson Valley IIRC.

Looks beautiful. I'll have to put it on my "places to visit" list.

Nice photos...I go through Burke's Garden every chance I get. I've been on three of those four access roads...but never noticed that jeep trail...just looked in the Gazetteer and noticed a trail leading over Hutchinson Rock and connecting with 602...is that the trail you're talking about?...like to check that out if it's not gated off...

Burke's Garden is a wonderful place. Wolf Creek running out of the valley is an awesome whitewater run for the experienced creek kayaker. I really miss living in the area.
