You will definitely enjoy fish in Portugal. If you get to travel to the Algarve (Portugal's southern coast) I can recommend you a couple of restaurants down here.

I think that in every place to Cantabria, Asturias or Galicia, you can eat a good fish.... but remember, always first ask the price...:D

We are settled for the night in Erceria, Portugal. It's nice here! Decent sea food. Cheap hotel, free breakfast, free wifi... :evil Tomorrow Lisbon, and the area. We'll stay here for couple of days, and then we go back to southern Spain.

Hello my Spanish friends! I'm in a bit of a spot and hoping someone can point me straight.

I'll be in Barcelona June 17-23 and have rented a really nice R1200GS for a day to tour the countryside with girlfriend on back. However i was hasty and put my money down before figuring out they don't rent gear! Oops. :baldy

How do I get 2 helmets for 1 day?

Thanks so much! I'm very excited to ride in Spain - and my bike at home is a 2007 Vstrom 1000 so the 2012 GS will be a nice treat.

    Thanks ADV.

Hola, lo siento, no hablo mucho espanol.

We are planning a trip from Santander to Donostia s Sebation, then south to Estella.
From there we are planning on taking the 240 & 260 East through the mountains and then dropping down to Barcelona.
We will be spending a few days there seeing the sights and the beach.
From there we will be travelling North in the general direction of Toulouse.

we will be in s sebastian on the 30/07/12 and from then on we are quite flexible.

Can anyone recommend sensibly priced places to stay, room only as a preference.

Would anyone like to meet up for a coffee/beer along the way.

We will be aboard a BMW R1100RS so roads only this trip.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Mucho Gracias

    Rob and Barb

Ok, as said before, there is a lot of higway on your trip, not necessary, lot of backroads to ride same places, I' try to help:

    Route:

As per you plan, I see some big cities as Zaragoza or Madrid. I do not recommend you to visit these cities in August, too hot and not really big interest, as many of the people is on the beach, only tourists. The Highway between Zaragoza and Madrid is booooooring, and so is that from Madrid to Cordoba.

As I see, you get into Spain trough Huesca, A good plan should be from Huesca to Pamplona, then Soria, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca, Caceres and then continue to Portugal.

Andalucia is very pretty, and has the real "Spanish Taste" but, belive me, you do not want to go to Seville, Cordoba or Jaen in August with your biking gear on. If you como from Toulosse, you are not far, so you can come any other time.

About the northern part of your trip, I am afraid I cannot tell you a lot, only that you get a good rain cover and enjoy their food and landscapes.

    Food:

Tipycall thta I can recomend: Lamb from Aragon (So called ternasco) or Castilla, wines from Castilla (Ribera del Duero) or Rioja, Cochinillo in Segovia (Baby pork), Chuletón de Ternera blanca from Avila (beef steak), fish, seafood and octopuss in Galicia, pintxos in Vasc Country, cider and parruches in Asturias.

    Place to stay,

I always go to camping when on motorbike and to mid range hotels when on family, so not much advice for this type of trip. Look for HOSTAL signs if yours is a budget trip when on cities. On villages Alojamiento Rural is a good option.

I hope this can help you if you need further information, just ask. When you have more details about your scales, I am sure more people can give you some tips.

Have a nice trip and enjoy our country
