Scotts steering damper, I referred to it as the "hand of god", further back in this thread.... It's what me and my ridin buds in NH call it:D

Sorry, I was posting one thumbed....the cut off one at that. Yes, was just suprised to see Rooney's bike sans damper. I thought that was the shiz-nit with any rally bike, and it looks to be sandy down there.:D

those things are amazing! mine waits for a mount on the GSA, some day, tho I feel the Rhino's weight somehow counters for not having one on there:D
what I really need is another lightweight KTM to put it on:evil

Riding conditions will be like nothing you have experienced before, Australia is different. I don`t want to put the mockers on you, and can only wish you luck (if you do attend), but I`m wondering if you know what you`re letting yourself in for.

There have been European Dakar riders` that have come here and found conditions not what they thought they would be and have gone home with their tails between their legs.

If you do attend I`d suggest you learn as much as you can about the riding country and be ready to be on a steep learning curve.

Of course, as you already race a GS, it shows that you don`t do things in a conventional manner and have a mindset that will help you get through.

Personally, I hope you can get down here; I`m sure you will have a built in cheer squad, albeit a male one, if that`s OK?, and I hope you do well.

you know, they say if you can ski in New England, you can ski anywhere in the world (that has mountains and snow)
I think it's the same for riding off-road:D We have all sorts of different conditions here!

Personally, my theory is if I can survive your Amtrak, you can survive our safari.

She was so young! I'll get a current shot up if I can find one.

MEanwhile, Paul just sent me these:

This is Graham Grant popping wheelies in last year's event, I think. Or the year before.
Simon Pavey says from 3rd gear on up, the modern 450's have got nothing on this bike. Below 3rd gear, they have the weight advantage.

So, I met a guy last friday at the M/C shop, has a white and purple PD, it's for sale:eek1...... I'm trying to raise the $$ for it:cry, my GSA is less than 2 payments away from being paid off......:D do I do another loan?

It is rather unfortunate he doesn't want to barder:cry:cry:cry, it's not like he needs the $$, I could build him a nice door for his house that would be worth far more than the bike:huh

Why can't some folks see a good trade when it stares them in the face?:becca

Yeah but would a door be worth far more than a GSPD TO HIM.

He's restoring a '52 airhead, and has no worries about $
But, it does seem it is not worth a PD to him, or I would be making a beautiful door right now instead of "enjoying" the views in town and posting on ADV:D

Paul said that during the Rally he never once changed the oil or the air filter. :D

Not to say that nothing went wrong: One time, a crash put a hole in one of the carb elbows. Ever heard of that one? A two inch hole. It sucked in half the desert and sanded off the top end.

Another time, he actually got a battery that was manufactured backwards internally. + was - and - was +. Fried the whole system. Ever hear of that one? :Ear

This time, we are going to the finish :deal
